Pembridge Cottage is praised for its tranquil setting, beautiful grounds, and excellent access to local walks and attractions. Guests appreciate the friendly and helpful owner, the well-equipped kitchen, and the dog-friendly environment. While many found the cottage cosy and comfortable, some noted areas needing a deep clean and minor maintenance. WiFi can be unreliable, and the garden is not fully enclosed for pets. Overall, the cottage offers a restful countryside retreat with plenty of charm and potential.
Reviews are mixed, with several guests highlighting issues such as cobwebs, dust, and the need for a deep clean, particularly in bathrooms and kitchen areas. However, others found the property clean and tidy, suggesting inconsistency in cleaning standards.
The location is consistently praised for its peacefulness, beautiful countryside, and proximity to Monmouth and local attractions. Guests enjoyed the tranquil setting and access to walks and fields.
Most guests found the cottage cosy, warm, and comfortable, with good beds and a relaxing atmosphere. Some mentioned uncomfortable sofas and low headroom upstairs, but overall comfort was rated positively.
The cottage is generally well-equipped, with ample kitchenware, ensuite bathrooms, and thoughtful extras like maps and games. However, issues with WiFi, TV, and some maintenance (e.g., broken shower head, worn furniture) were noted by several guests.
Many guests appreciated the friendly, helpful owner and thoughtful touches such as welcome items, DVDs, and local information. While some guests received small gifts or extras, these are not guaranteed for all stays.
A delightful, 17th century, stone-built detached barn conversion, standing in the pretty grounds of the owner's country house and gardens in the hamlet of Welsh Newton, near the beautiful Wye Valley. Lovingly renovated to provide high quality accommodation including two en-suite bathrooms, the ground floor of this Welsh Newton cottage is decorated and furnished in a contemporary style while the main loft bedroom has a sloping ceiling and exposed oak beams, creating a romantic atmosphere. Excellent walking can be enjoyed nearby along Offa's Dyke, and the Wye and Monnow Valleys, while good fishing is available at the Rivers Monnow and Wye and local lakes. Cycling is also available nearby and in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), just half an hour away. With the lovely towns of Monmouth, Symonds Yat and Ross-on-Wye all within easy reach, this is a superb Welsh Newton cottage for couples and families alike.
Welsh Newton is close to the English and Welsh borders and to the town of Monmouth. If walking is your hobby then Welsh Newton is a good choice for you because there are lots of exciting walking routes to take including the famous Offa's Dyke. It's a fairly spacious cottage with two showers and very comfortable beds. There is a lovely garden but we seldom used it because the weather was rainy most days. My only nitpicks would be that there was a bit of dust behind the beds, WiFi was temperamental, and the TV wasn't a smart TV so no Netflix, etc, also it glitched a lot. But otherwise we had a lovely holiday and it was a great base to explore Symonds Yat, the Mappa Mundi, and Haye on Wye.

It was very easy to find. Owner was lovely & available if needed on site. Very comfortable & everything which is required for a weekâs holiday. The surrounding area has many national trust, woodland sites. Would certainly return.

The owner was very kind and helpful, and apart from the weather, we enjoyed the visit.
