About this property
One Tree House is a light and airy detached stone-fronted cottage situated opposite Dinas Head in the village of Dinas Cross which lies between Newport and Fishguard. Just 100 yards from the Pembrokeshire coastal path it’s an excellent location for walking and is a five-minute walk to the beaches of Cwm-yr-Eglwys and Pwllgwaelod. The cottage has a contemporary open plan kitchen and living area which has two three seater sofas and a log burning fire and leads to a south facing, private patio with dining and seating. The kitchen is well equipped, with a dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, a range cooker with two ovens, and kitchenware suitable for preparing the most sophisticated meals if desired.A utility room has a washing machine, freezer and sink and is an ideal place to store walking boots, paddle boards or kayaks.
For recreation there is a Smart TV offering many channels including Disney and Netflix and a games room equipped with a full size table tennis table. All three bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms; the two super king size rooms have their own TV’s and the third has a double bed and two bunk beds which means the house can accommodate six adults or four adults and four young children. The scattered village of Dinas Cross has a well stocked mini market store and a pub, and nestles between the Preseli Mountains and the wonderful Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Pwll Gwaelod and Cwm-Yr-Eglwys beaches are both paces away, both with breath-taking scenery offering the opportunity for tranquil days in perfect settings, and are almost unnoticed by the general public unless they leave the main route through the village, with there being a petrol station, two pubs a fish and chip shop, as well as a restaurant down at Pwll Gwaelod beach. Nearby Newport is a quirky seaside town steeped in history, with various shops, tea rooms and pubs and is also a great place to go boating. With castles, mills, craft centres and golf courses galore scattered all over this beautiful Welsh county, this is the perfect base for a break all year round.

The cottage is in a fantastic location for walking, accessing the 2 nearby beaches and coastal path, and exploring the whole area. We were very comfortable - very comfy beds and sofas, and good showers. The table tennis table was great too. A few feedback points on things that we felt could be improved and reflected in the lower scores on a few of our ratings: - Broken smoke alarm on the upstairs landing. This should be replaced asap. - The fridge is on its way out. Too small for a self catering property of this size and it kept on freezing things. - The photos didnât give an accurate impression of the property from the outside, leaving out that thereâs on- going building work and scaffolding up on the attached neighbouring house (the property was stated to be a detached stone cottage at the time of booking and during stay). This didnât bother us particularly- weâd probably have still booked - but full disclosure upfront on this wouldâve been much better. - The property wasnât particularly clean in comparison with some other places weâve stayed. it didnât bother us as we just cleaned it ourselves anyway. - Quite a lot of clutter in cupboards / shelves - again not a big problem for us but not something weâve come across in other places.

The rear courtyard is secure and the garage/games area was great to leave the dogs in overnight. The rooms all had ensuite facilities and there were plenty of towels and toilet rolls left for us to use. The nearest beach beach is a short walk (10 minutes) away, but is steep uphill on the way back so if you might want to drive. The coastal walk is very nearby and well worth the walk.

The layout is clever use of space and bathrooms for each bedroom was good. Cleanliness and maintenance are a major issue. The showers had mould all over the grout and the silicon was disgusting. In the kitchen we found that lots of the crockery was chipped and it's showing signs of heavy use. The cleanliness wasn't just the showers, the bedding was stained, blind mouldy and it was evident it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned for some time. Outside areas need a good sweep, weeds pulled and furniture cleaned. We enjoyed our stay as its a beautiful area which we've been visiting for many years but our trip was spoilt by the cleaning and maintenance issues. We have never stayed anywhere which doesn't supply the basics such as toilet paper, tea, coffee. The bottle of wine and welsh cakes was appreciated. This is the most difficult review I've ever had to give but it really needs addressing and I note that the recent reviews say the same and the star rating has gone down considerably.
