For those special occasions, venture into the historic market town of Dolgellau where you will find a selection of restaurants and pubs, as well as several shops for picking up the essentials. There are a magnitude of walks from the doorstep of the cottage ranging from the challenges of the mountain peak Cadair Idris, the magical isolation of the Cregennan Lakes, or the beautiful and unfolding landscape of the Mawddach Estuary; keen cyclists will be delighted with the nearby Coed y Brenin Forest Park. Alternatively, head to the coast where you can soak up the sun at the sandy beaches, Fairbourne awaits with its long stretch of shingle shores and beachfront golf club. Further along the coast is the Victorian seaside town of Barmouth, a place making for a great day out, where you can go crabbing in its Marina, climb to Dina Oleo and view the beautiful stone-built town below, or simply bask in the sun on the popular Traeth Abermaw Beach. Make your way into the Snowdonia National Park to find more outdoors activities, from thrilling zipwires to kayaking in white waters; or continue to travel along the coast to discover more picturesque settlements, including the Italianate village of Portmeirion.
