Regularly topping the list of Britain’s best beaches, Rhossili Bay is pure seaside dog heaven. Three miles of golden sand stretch out before you, with dramatic cliffs and headland views that’ll have you and your pup grinning from ear to floppy ear. Dogs are welcome all year round, and low tide opens up vast sands perfect for a game of fetch with extra zoom. Stop for a post-walk ice cream (dog-friendly options included) and bask in that salty sea air.

This circular walk is proof that Snowdonia isn’t just for the super-hikers. Llyn Idwal gives you a taste of mountain magic without having to summit anything scary – perfect for a leisurely summer ramble. The lake itself is drop-dead gorgeous, surrounded by towering crags and blooming wildflowers. The path is well-trodden, dog-friendly and you might even get a paddle in if the pup’s brave enough (you, maybe less so – it’s very ‘fresh’).

Red kites soaring overhead, peaceful woodland trails, and a dog-friendly café to end on? Sign us up. This forest centre near Aberystwyth is brilliant for dogs who love variety – there are short loops, longer treks and lakeside strolls, all with incredible views of the Cambrian Mountains. In summer, the trails are full of colour and the kite feeding times are absolutely worth sticking around for.

There’s a surprisingly gentle route up from the Storey Arms car park, and plenty of families (and dogs) tackle it in summer without breaking too much of a sweat. The summit view is unreal on a clear day and there’s a real sense of achievement when you and your four-legged sidekick reach the top. Don’t forget water, snacks and obligatory summit selfies.

This walk is a summer dream – part clifftop adventure, part beach paradise. Start from Stackpole Quay and take the coast path to Barafundle Bay, often hailed as one of the prettiest beaches in the world. It’s a bit of a walk and there are some steps involved, but it’s worth every one for the turquoise water and golden sand that awaits. Pack a picnic, bring a frisbee and settle in.

The reservoirs are ringed by scenic paths and there are forested sections that feel totally untouched. It’s a proper get-away-from-it-all destination, especially in summer when the wildflowers are out and the whole area feels like something out of a nature documentary. City pups don’t have to miss out – the Cardiff Bay Trail is a fab flat loop with waterside views, wide paths and loads of interesting pit stops. Walk from Mermaid Quay over the barrage to Penarth Marina and back, or just potter along the waterfront and soak up the summer buzz. It’s all off-road and dog-friendly, and there are plenty of cafés that’ll happily bring your pooch a water bowl and a biscuit.

An easy walk with a big pay-off – that’s what we love. The route to Aber Falls is flat, accessible and gorgeous in summer, cutting through green valleys to a mighty 120-foot waterfall. Dogs can sniff their way along the path, paddle in the river, and cool off in the spray at the base of the falls. It's also a great one for families or mixed ability groups.

It’s the tallest waterfall in Wales and it’s spectacular. Pistyll Rhaeadr tumbles dramatically from a 73m height, and there’s a gentle trail that leads right to its base – perfect for lazy summer ambles with a picnic in the bag. The surrounding hills are criss-crossed with longer trails too if you’re after a challenge, and the little tearoom at the foot of the falls is a top-tier dog-walking bonus.

11. Saundersfoot to Tenby Coastal Path, Pembrokeshire

One of the most scenic and well-known seaside strolls in Wales, this coastal path links two lovely beach towns with a mix of cliff views, shady woods and sandy detours. There are a few steep bits, but the sea air (and the ice cream at either end) makes it all worth it. Plus, dogs can dip their paws in along the way – Monkstone Beach is a firm favourite.
