Dog Friendly Castle Douglas Holiday Cottages

Officially designated as Scotland's 'Food Town', Castle Douglas is perfect for food-lovers. It has over fifty establishments offering local food and drink, including breweries and a variety of restaurants and cafes. Beyond food, the landscape surrounding the Scottish market town is stunning, being just a short distance from Carlingwark Loch, perfect for walking, boating, or a picnic.

At Dog Friendly Cottages, we know that your holiday wouldn't be complete without your dog beside you. This is why we have thousands of holiday cottages across the UK, each handpicked to offer you and your pup the perfect place to explore the local area. Whether you're looking for a large villa for all the family, or a cosy cottage for you and your partner to escape the world for a little while, we have something to suit you.

Our dog-friendly cottages in Castle Douglas are perfect for drinking in the local culture at the art galleries or local theatre. Or explore the history of the area by seeking out the ancient castles that are scattered around the Scottish countryside. Take a day to visit Threave Castle and the neighbouring Garden and Estate. With a two-mile walk along the loch to reach the castle, your dog will love this outing just as much as you will.

What our customers say about their holidays

Lovely large house, great location, close to shops, park etc. The house was very well equipped and stocked all our essentials ie toilet rolls, washing up liquid, even tin foil, cling film and sandwich bags. There were 10 of us split over a 2 week stay at Braidwood, 5 children & 5 adults. The house had plenty of large rooms to accommodate us all. The children really enjoyed the garden and the park out the back gate. We all walked round the park by the loch, the kids enjoyed playing on the playground. Made our way back with a walk up Queens Street. I enjoyed sitting in the garden at night & early morning, while everyone was in bed, having a cup of tea and a cigarette, it was so peaceful and the different birds certainly kept me entertained, the robin especially came to greet me every morning. 2022 was my 25th year of staying in Scotland for my annual summer holiday, my late mother's people were all Dalbeattie folk born & bred. I lost my mum 8 years ago, also losing my eldest brother 4 weeks after mum's passing. They are laid to rest in and around their favourite places, Sandyhills, Rockcliffe etc. They are all together at Sweetheart Abbey alongside my aunt (mum's sister) and her son (my cousin) My Summer holiday are sort of like a pilgrimage to visit my loved ones resting place and a promise I made too my mum on her last visit to Sweetheart Abbey, that every year I would visit with flowers. I also visit the Haugh of Urr were some of mum's family are laid to rest. I hope that one day I will get to stay at Braidwood again, I'm opting for a much quieter holiday next year without all the grand kids. As always booking through Discover Scotland my holiday is always 100% satisfactory. Great Property in a Great Location...Thank You for an amazing holiday on behalf of myself and family members who stayed with us. See You All Next Year

Simply Suite is a great place to stay in a beautiful area.

Impeccably clean, extremely comfortable, the superb welcome pack found round every corner. I’d looked up the site of the flat beforehand so the road wasn’t a surprise, and while fairly busy, I live on a much busier road so it wasn’t an issue for me. The bedrooms being at the back they were very quiet. Nor did I hear anything of the neighbours. The kitchen was amazingly well stocked with everything I could possibly need - I was surprised at only finding a very fine grater, until I opened another cupboard and found two more (and that cupboard hiding within it so much more in the way of mixing bowls, measuring jugs, and more). I’ve not mentioned the views over the loch which are a delight, as was the birdsong. It may be by the road, but so much higher you look over the traffic to the trees, the peaceful water, the swans. I’ll be happy to book there again.

Although we live in the country we were not prepared for how dark the house was.

Set in the trees I suppose. We found there were very few electric sockets so difficult to find somewhere to charge mobile phones. Appreciated the torch/light in hall. Essential if you needed to use the cloakroom in the night. The cottage was very comfortable. We moved a chair from dining room into lounge as no one likes to sit three on a sofa, not very relaxing. Beds extremely comfortable. Found the kitchen a bit odd, nowhere to put food other than the fridge. No dishwasher. Also found the crockery and cooking pans extremely heavy. Denby looks great but that shape not all that practical when you want to stack things. Surprisingly couldn't find a kitchen fork. With five of us in the lounge we felt that it would have been better to have a smaller table. A number of knees got bashed. All in all it was a plesant experience and we would recommend to friends.

This was our 3rd stay in Simply Suite which, I think, tells a story.

As always, the apartment was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We love looking over to Carlingwark Loch where, this time, the swans were nesting. We enjoyed trips to Kirkcudbright and Broughton House, Kippford and Rockcliffe, a visit to Drumlanrig Castle which had lovely walks around the grounds, a drive out to Wigtown to stock up on books, as well as the charming shops of Castle Douglas itself. We enjoyed meals at Streetlights cafe and at the King's Head in Castle Douglas, Sunday lunch at The Old School House on the A75 outside Kirkcudbright and at Brambles cafe in Kirkcudbright. All in all, a lovely holiday, in a lovely party of the country, staying in a lovely wee apartment. If/when we come back to the area, we'd definitely book Simply Suite again.

50 years self catering experience and Simply Suits is tops.

The flat was immaculate with a beautiful view to the front where wild life in abundance included nesting swans, ducks with young in tow and the loch meadow was entered right opposite which was handy for dog walking. Our dog enjoyed lying in the sun on the enclosed patio and taking the daily walk into CD for the paper and coffee in dog friendly shops. Strongly recommend a visit to Laurieston to the near by farm which for 20 years has at 1400 hours each day out out food for Red Kites (about 30). Seeing these magnificent birds swooping down was the highlight of our holiday. The surrounding countryside was very pleasant with a wide variety of places to visit. All in all Simply Suits ticks all the boxes.
