What our customers say about their holidays

  • Simon - Verified booking

We had read the reviews from previous guests about the size of towels, cutlery and building work taking place.

So our review is based on our thoughts aware of this. We took our own towels and were glad as the ‘bath’ towels are very small. The cutlery is, as others have said, of very poor quality, and considering the quality and equipment of other items in the kitchen, was disappointing. The saucepans are also not ideal as the non-stick surface is damaged. As a minor detail it would also be nice to have ice cube trays in the freezer. The noise from the builders does start bang on 8:00am but as we’re early risers it didn’t affect us. However, we did take our dog (which they met) but on their arrival, every day, they opened the gate (not sure why they needed to) so the courtyard was no longer enclosed. Fortunately, when they did this the first time she was on a lead but guests should be mindful of this as it would be awful for anybody who let their dog out thinking the area is secure when it no longer is because the builders didn’t consider this. Also, the noise from the property next door, it wasn’t an issue for us but the sound does easily travel! In the main bathroom upstairs there are no shelves or anywhere to store your toiletries. Even the size of the sink makes it difficult to leave a toothbrush on the side. The ‘bumpy’ drive is also accurately described by other reviews but again driving an SUV, while we still had to be careful it didn’t do any damage, a low car may not have faired as well! The turning angle into the drive is also very tight with the wall so again care is needed. We read about the lack of ‘welcome pack’ and while that is lovely, it is not something we would ever expect from a holiday home. A welcome note would have been nice though! That said it’s a fabulous location and we did have a lovely holiday! We visit the Lake District regularly but wouldn’t necessarily book this again.

The property was totally unsuitable for us.

There were several flies in every room and evidence in ceilings and walls where people had squashed them. Many spiders on ceiling and especially corners. When I booked I explained we must have ground floor accommodation as my husband can no longer manage the stairs. I was totally horrified to find steep stairs going up to kitchen and living room. As we arrived in the dark and later than we had intended there was nothing we could do about it that night. We phoned Sykes the following morning and they said they were unable to assist with finding us alternative accommodation but would get their customer service to contact us by phone. To date this has not happened. We were left by ourselves, stressed and worried where we would sleep that night. Once back home we are straight into a planned building project and extremely busy. The only communication Sykes have had with us is an email 27.9.23, 20 days after our 1 night stay from Customer Relations Team saying Francesca will respond to us. She has not called. Asking us to complete another questionnaire is their only contact with us We are left out of pocket for the 3 nights we could not stay in our accommodation and still stressed by the experience. We are extremely disappointed with Sykes and would not wish this situation on anybody else. I am hoping that by writing this report it will galvanise Sykes into contacting us direct and resolving this problem. Since 18th sept we have heard nothing other than the 1 email mentioned above . Wainwright Lodge is located on a site with many other lodges and facilities such as a nice pub, laundrette, dog walking field, picnic spots, play area for kids and a shop!

That being said, it still has a really rural remote feeling to it, because the site itself is in such a beautiful location surrounded by nature walks up hills, and fields with sheep! Its an easy 10 minute drive to Windermere, so perfectly located. The lodge itself probably has the best view in the house with a beautiful, always warm hot tub overlooking great scenery (and the stars at night are something special)! It is comfortable whilst not feeling cramped with a modern fitted kitchen and all the mod cons, the bed was SUPER comfy (we actually bought a new duvet when coming home because of how comfy this one was)!! It has a smart TV with all the apps (for people wanting to chill out) and stays lovely and warm throughout. The game changer for us was that they were both dog friendly AND baby friendly as this was our first family holiday all together and I wouldn't have changed a single thing. We had an amazing time here, I would absolutely recommend it to anyone and want to come back!! What did you enjoy most about your stay? Getting in the hot tub and watching the sun set over the hills What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? Go and eat at the Drunken Duck inn - the food is exceptional!

This is our 3rd trip to Limefitt Lodges, we booked the Wainwright lodge on the day we returned from a brilliant break as lockdown was easing Summer 2020 but unfortunately this break we encountered a few issues.

Firstly we would like to say the lodge is in a nice location, not overlooked with the added bonus of a hot tub and the guy who came out every day was very pleasant and friendly, all staff on site including the Haybarn were very friendly. We had problems with the fridge keeping food cool, this was reported and somebody came out while we were out and an email was received saying the fridge was working fine and implied the vents were blocked, by this time we had to throw out fresh produce and had ice packs inside to try and keep butter cool including a birthday cake. There was no improvement to the coolness of the fridge for the duration of our holiday, it was last tested in 2018 we would recommend a service. We also had a power cut for 7 hours, which was also reported and it came back on the morning we were leaving which spoilt our last evening. We would like to address, as have other recent visitors regarding the huge price increases for 2022, we booked this lodge in July 2020 for £1134.00 for 7 nights in 2021 and the same week if we wanted to return in July 2022 is £2030!! Even with the effects of covid 19 and inflation this price increase is unethical and unjustified. Unfortunately as other visitors have commented you have outpriced us returning.

  • Philip - Verified booking

The cottage was originally booked for the Spring but due to Covid restrictions we had to defer the trip until October.

However the cottage was lovely albeit on a muddy farm due to the weather. Heavy rain at night but apart from one day, lovely weather during the day so ideal for a holiday. It is also a working farm so bookers need to be aware of this. Don't expect to keep your car clean. The cottage had everything we needed and was very clean and tidy. It was also ideally located for us as it was near everything we wanted to visit. Ravensglass to Eskdale railway, Westwater, Conniston Water etc. Also took the train to Carlisle which is a great journey as the railway follows the coastline for much of the journey and only £18 return. There is a lot to do in Western Lakes and the cottage is an ideal location to see the area. The only criticism I have is with Sykes. Having originally booked for the Spring and having to move the booking to October due to Covid lockdown, we were never contacted re the price difference, which was about £100 cheaper. It would have been nice to have been asked if we were happy to continue to pay the extra £100 to the owners, which we were. We are retired and have not been financially affected by this disease, but understand many have been affected, so were happy to pay the extra. But it would have been nice to have been asked.
