What our customers say about their holidays

  • Simon - Verified booking

The cottage is in a lovely location on a private estate.

We liked the ability to open the windows to allow air into the property, plus the blinds to cover the windows helped to reduce light during the early hours of the morning. The binder with instructions on the various devices was very useful. Kitchen worked as it should but it could do with a large frying pan. The shower was overall good but we found that the boiler would lose pressure every few days so we just increased the pressure for a couple of seconds until the needle got to the recommended mark and the shower would then contintue to run warm/hot. The shower head is a little stiff but that's more down to the hard water so if someone has tried to adjust the jet then it might not lock in place and hence water shoots through the top and wets the bathroom, fan in bathroom wasn't working but not an issue. Main double bed is on the firm side which initially isn't ab issue but on the last two nights we started to feel it so might be an issue for some. The bunk room is only suitable for primary aged children which wasn't an issue for us though. The chill out room is great for kids to play, stairs are a little steep and exposed at the top but a toy box covered that part and wasnt an issue but others would need to be aware if they have smaller children. Cottage generally clean, just a few cob webs in bathroom corners but otherwise clean duvets are showing their age and could do with replacing. The small front garden isn't enclosed but that's stated on the site but gets the sun during the day which is good. Overall good and we enjoyed our stay.

We rented both the farm house and the barn at Hutchinghayes for a large family celebration. We could not have been happier. Both the properties were perfect in every detail and we all enjoyed the sun lounge in the main farm house as our party room. However, the most enjoyable aspect was the stunning garden. Although it was very chilly whilst we were there (early April), we were fortunate that it didn't rain so we spent so much time exploring the grounds, walking around the lakes, feeding the ducks and geese and the children were highly amused by the pot bellied pig. We had the most wonderful weekend and would not hesitate to recommend Hutchinghayes as the perfect place to catch up with family and friends and to enjoy the peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings. I would also add that, as a family group, we have rented many holiday properties but Hutchinghayes has slotted in to our number one slot. We will definitely be back. - Susanna Teall

We absolutely loved our stay at the barn. Liz is a wonderful host, and made us feel so at home. We visited with our two children and intended to spend much of the week exploring the surrounding area (including fossil hunting on the coast, which was ace), but we were also so happy in the cottage and the gardens that we spent a lot of time just playing, exploring the gardens and all the wildlife and relaxing there. We had a lovely picnic lunch in the boathouse - highly recommended, and the girls were thrilled to feed the fish and Treacle the pig, to see bats in the evenings and look out for the pair of nesting ducks and geese. The cottage is gorgeous and very comfortable, and the whole of Hutchinghayes is exceptionally beautiful. We are already looking forward to returning! Thank you so much Liz for a wonderful week's stay X

Just returned from a fantastic weekend away at Hutchinghayes Barn. An idyllic location where you feel away from it all but still within easy reach of places to visit and things to do.The barn itself is fantastic and very comfortably sleeps four adults. It is set in beautiful grounds with two lakes, a boathouse and even a pet pig! The grounds are perfect to go for a stroll in or just sit on one of the many benches and take in the view.Liz was the perfect host, always on hand but never intrusive, she had some great recommendations for places to eat nearby which we would never have found without her assistance.I would recommend this location as the perfect break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life... you wont be disappointed.

Hutchinhayes Barn is absolutely idyllic. A beautifully converted and luxuriously furnished stone barn set in a cobbled courtyard with far reaching views beyond the extensive grounds. The quiet, rural location is perfect for a relaxing break but close to the facilities at Honiton and just a short drive to the coast or the Blackdown Hills. We appreciated the thoughtful provisions provided for our arrival and the owner, Liz made us feel very welcome. After spending long days sightseeing, hiking and cycling it was a joy to return to the comfort of Hutchinhayes for a stroll round the meadows in the evening sunshine before indulging in a cream tea under the rose covered arbour in the courtyard. Hutchinhayes Barn is a very special place.
