Dog Friendly Goathland Holiday Cottages

The former spa village of Goathland is found in the stunning North York Moors National Park. The village has attracted visitors since the 19th century, but after a starring role in TV shows Heartbeat and Harry Potter, it has become even more popular. There are inviting walks here, including a circuit to Grosmont where you can ride back on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The 70-foot Mallyan Spout waterfall is another big attraction.

At Dog Friendly Cottages we know your pup wants to be part of the holiday fun. That's why we list the best dog-friendly cottages Goathland has to offer. Do you want a spacious barn conversion for the family with a roaring fire? Maybe you'd like a romantic retreat where you can indulge yourself in the majestic scenery. Whatever you're after, we can help you find it.

Our holiday cottages in Goathland are positioned so you can make the most of every minute in Yorkshire. From the Instagrammable thatched cottage by the brook in Thornton le Dale to the mediaeval history of York, there is something in this enticing region for everyone.

What our customers say about their holidays

We loved the location of this sweet cottage.

Set down in Esk Valley, It was just perfect for us. No parking straight next to the cottage, but we were made aware of this beforehand and there is a little car park a few houses down. Plus you go in the back entrance, which is not a problem at all. We could look out in the mornings and see the cows and calves in the field in front of the cottage. From the bedroom window, there was a clear view of the rail tracks for the steam trains, we looked out on numerous occasions and watched it go by in awe. Plus in the next-door-but-one neighbours front garden, we watched every morning the birds on the feeders, regularly spotting and watching a woodpecker. We are keen bird watchers and this was just so lovely for us. From the car park there is a footpath which was an old rail track, which can take you two ways. One way you can walk to Grosmont, which has a fantastic steam railway station and the other way we walked as far as Goathland which was lovely going through a sheep field, past a stream/beck and runs over rocks and through woodlands and is very picturesque. The whole area is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed going out every day from this cottage. The only thing we were sad about, is that we were only there for 4 nights, we wanted to stay much longer. Hoping to come back and stay longer next time.

Over all we had a good holiday at this cottage.

We had just one major problem with a broken light fitting, but after a phone call that evening to the owner, an electrician arrived the next morning and fixed it. Very satisfied with that response. We have just two minor things to bring to your attention. First: And this can be a problem at many cottages we visit, and that is the lack of sufficient storage space for food items in the kitchen. This cottage was no different from 95% of cottages we have rented in that it had insufficient storage cupboard. What cupboards it did have, and it did have quite a lot of them, BUT the were almost all being used for Plates, pans, etc. All of which is needed and it was well appointed with these things, just lack of space for the items we wished to store. Second: This is basically a very minor item. The sink in the bathroom had a crack in it. It didn't stop us using it, but I feel it would be better if it was not there. I have no wish to be negative about this cottage because that would NOT be a true reflection of it, I would say that we 98% satisfied with it.

Cottage was very tired and was ready for decorating throughout.

A large crack in bathroom hand basin, bath very worn on the bottom, toilet wouldn’t flush on the day after we arrived. Rang owner and she called a plumber. Plumber put a new part in the toilet and all was well until on the Wednesday evening it would not flush again. Thursday morning rang owner told her we were already out of the cottage for the day and would not be there to let the plumber in. Two neighbours had keys for access. We returned back to the cottage to find a card through the letterbox from the plumber saying called today but no one was in. From Wednesday evening to departure on Friday morning we were filling a bucket of water to flush the toilet. The bathroom suite is ready for replacing. I would not stay in this cottage again and would not recommend this cottage. Fantastic setting but cottage needed some money spending on it.

    This stay was brilliant.

Lovely cottage in an idyllic location. We got to see steam trains right past our window and lots of wildlife right by us including deer, pheasant and rabbits again right outside our window! The cottage is lovely and has everything you need for a weeks stay. It was homely, clean and felt really cosy. The owner set up the high chair and travel cot for us as they knew we were arriving late which was really helpful. Valley Esk is a wonderful location close to many different attractions. Grosmont is a 20min walk away and in the other direction you could walk to Goathland. Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough are a fairly short drive away for the beach and sea. Hutton Le Hole is picturesque and definitely worth a visit. Thanks for a wonderful stay!! This cottage definitely exceeded our expectations!

Thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Chapel Cottage - in fact we've already booked a week next year!

The Owner and the neighbours couldn't have been more helpful and friendly - especially as I left my phone at home...with the key code on it :-O The place is super clean and tidy and had everything we needed for our break. One or two of the fixtures and fittings are a little "tired", and the double bed was softer than we're used to but we'll work round that when we stay next time. None of this detracted from the amazing location!! So, so quiet and peaceful for us, no traffic noise or shouty neighbours, just the birds, the cows and the occasional steam or diesel train passing by. Right on the Rail Trail, and the local village is easy walking distance (for us) for any provisions you need. Can't wait until next year :-)
