What our customers say about their holidays
Mr Johnston - Verified booking
We recently enjoyed a delightful week at Penmaen House, a large charming house that provided a wonderful holiday for our three-generation family. The location is idyllic, a setting that offers a perfect balance of relaxation and outdoor activities. The spaciousness of the cottage was particularly appreciated, allowing everyone to have their own space while still enjoying quality family time together. The cottage is conveniently close to the beach. However, the path to the beach was quite steep and rugged, making it challenging for our youngest family members. As a result we had to drive to a local cove. The cottage was not quite ready when we arrived, which did not create a good first impression, the beds were unmade and there was a sense we were expected to make them! This was an inconvenience as some of the children needed their beds on arrival. There are a few other areas I would suggest require improvement. While the cottage was wonderful for adults, it is not particularly toddler-friendly. The high chair was more suited to a Victorian child! Families with toddlers might want to bring some extra child proofing items. The interior could also benefit from a fresh coat of paint in some areas to brighten up the space. Moreover, we were disappointed to find that the advertised pitch and putt is no longer available. The swimming pool was well used but the plants were large and didn’t create a pleasant environment. Despite these issues, our stay at Penmaen House was thoroughly enjoyable. The charm and comfort of the house, combined with its excellent location, made it a perfect spot for a great multi-generational family holiday.

Good points; the facilities were generally good and the location was idyllic, the pool was warm and the view from several of the bedrooms was lovely. Only a 15 minute walk to the lovely beach but the path was rocky in places and would be difficult for young toddlers and older people. The accommodation was spacious and comfy with lots of room to play pool and table tennis. Not so good points; some essential products such as toilet roles were missing, the sauna didn't work until it was fixed by the owner after four days, the cot was unusable because of its location and couldn't be moved without dismantling. the property looked generally tired and in need of redecoration and the shed with the tennis and bowls wasn't used because it was dark (no windows only poor lights.) There was no way of turning the heating down or off (it wasn't needed in June) so the windows were reluctantly kept open until the heating was switched off. The owner Roz was unavailable until after the weekend so issues remained unresolved until her return. She was very friendly though and did her best to deal with the issues. Holiday Cottages were also very helpful throughout.

A lovely location and a good size house but I am disappointed to say I would not recommend it or revisit in its current state. Reasons listed below: Too cluttered to keep clean Moth eaten carpets Broken bathroom facilities No lock on pool door had to move a cupboard to ensure 4yr old didn’t get in. No lights in sauna broke during our stay spoke to Ros but no follow up. No welcome pack useful to know when bin day etc is No very OAP step father fell off broken toilet seat. No bags to put bed sheets/towels in. Wi fi patchy Using a basket on the lawn mower would have stopped us having to brush all the outdoor chairs/ tables twice. Inventory needs updating second dishwasher had no shelves in it and water in the bottom. Ventilation poor in the laundry room if using the tumble dryer. This house has such potential but needs investment to make it worth the price it commands. Happy to talk about the experience and share photos.

No heating until Sunday evening after Friday arrival and a broken garden door until Monday when lock was replaced. Issues were known prior our arrival - just wish back door was fixed prior our arrival, as very tricky with dogs. They had prior issues with very old boiler so we wish heating was tested prior our arrival after a cold few winter months… boiler and lock now replaced so lucky next holiday makers. A very cold tricky weekend followed by 5 wonderful days walking and enjoying warm house in the evenings. We got some money back as a gesture of good will. Plumber was lovely and kind enough to come over a few times. And handyman who replaced lock was very friendly too. Beautiful location, clean house and wonderful walks!!

This is a lovely property in a stunning location and within a short walk of all the village amenities. It's generally well equipped and extremely spacious, with a generous amount of parking space. There's a huge lawn overlooking the bay and a gated garden area at the back which is secure for those bringing small children. The only downsides for us were the poor Internet signal - which could be a problem for anyone wishing to work remotely on holiday - and the lack of crockery and cutlery for toddlers/small children (We had three under fours with us). That said, we'd be happy to book this property again, and maybe bring our own plastic plates next year!
