What our customers say about their holidays

My husband and I, along with our Beagle Ruby, stayed at St Coombs Farmhouse for just over a week. My sister and her partner also stayed for a few nights to meet up and enjoy a relaxing few days on this wonderful 'island'. The farmhouse was quite outstanding. It was very comfortable due to it's large rooms which were warm and cozily furnished, with a large farmhouse kitchen with an Aga and a sitting room with lovely open fire to burn logs.We found everything we needed in the kitchen for cooking meals and the beds were large comfortable and clean. I did notice that the main bedroom duvet cover was starting to wear and the seam had come apart in one corner. Not problematic but just an observation. We loved sitting in the conservatory as again, the furnishings were very comfortable. We were delighted to be rewarded with a Hawfinch in the garden late one afternoon which was very pleasing as part of the purpose for coming was to do a spot of birding. We also had a Snow Bunting close by along with all the usual autumn visitors one would expect at this time of year. I'd also like to say a special thanks to Stay Northumbria staff who not only added a last minute request for an additional night's stay at the accommodation without any fuss but also managed very quickly to get the Aga reset remotely when a power cut shut it down. The impact of being without the heat was soon felt but the other cooker, the underfloor heating and the fire came into their own. We've been to Lindisfarne many times over the last forty odd years but this was the best accommodation we've had. Will definitely stay again next time we come. I would have no reservations of booking through Stay Northumbria.

On arrival we were disappointed by the overall basic standard of the property. It had received the most minimal of cleans. The freezer was iced up and needed defrosting. There were dirty plates in the plate holder over the sink. The dishwasher was still going from the previous occupants. The kitchen had received the most basic clean but nothing had been moved from off the surface so other people's debris was still there. The kitchen was the focal point of the house and we enjoyed the aga. The fire had not been cleaned out in the lounge. The lounge furniture was very old and worn. The main sofa being too uncomfortable to use for long. The conservatory was a nice room but again you could see the dirt and dust underneath the old furniture and the rug was threadbare. The weather was too cold when we stayed to enjoy this room which would have been a nice space in warmer weather. The bedrooms were better and the main beds were comfortable. However there was thick dust on the chest of drawers in the main bedroom. The bathrooms were very old in poor condition and not cleaned properly. All surfaces were dirty or dusty. The floors were dirty and unacceptable. The showers were extremely noisy and worked intermittently. No one enjoyed having a shower in any of the bathrooms. The garden is a nice space but we found 5 lots of other guests dog poo! The farmhouse is in a nice position close to everything this lovely island has to offer and could be a good place to stay with some maintenance and TLC. We stayed in February in very cold weather so spent more time than usual in the house. The house was warm which was appreciated.

Cottage is lovely.
Seemed recently refurbished, immaculate, comfortable and clean. Lovely and spacious for two adults and a child plus two doggies. Bed comfy and everything and more youâd expect for a self catering cottage. Only negative was the Tankerville Arms itself. There is a menu online plus one was printed and left in cottage. Menu was very varied and sounded lovely so we had planned to eat there on the first night. Pub was empty when we arrived (tea time during the Easter weekend) and was told that the blackboard menu was all they had. 4 starters and 4 mains. Not the 3-4 page menu we had seen in website or that was left in our cottage. When we questioned this we were just told that was all they had. By this time my 5 year old son was starving so we ordered for him and went elsewhere. He didnât eat much of the food, chips werenât really cooked properly and heâs not usually fussy. I think the menu needs to be removed from the website and not printed and provided for guests as itâs misleading. We would definitely stay in cottages again but wonât be eating at the pub.

St Coombs Farmhouse is a larger than average house just outside Lindisfarne's village, convenient for shops and pubs, but also for walking to the Castle and Nature Reserve. Unlike many properties on the island, it has no sea view, but compensates for this with a conservatory looking onto its enclosed garden (we particularly enjoyed this during the thunderstorm of our first night!). We had a number of minor niggles / things in need of maintenance (downstairs shower doesn't drain very well, nor does handbasin in en suite bathroom; a lock on the upstairs bathroom would be welcome; we ran out of mugs before we had filled the dishwasher), trivial but letting down a generally very well furnished property. Other issues might have been resolved by more contact with management locally: we found the house overheated for (an admittedly exceptional) summer, and would have welcomed more guidance on disposal of recycling (other than glass).

We have known Holy Island for a lifetime, and it was good to return with the UK part of the family for a very relaxing time during Holy Week. St Coombs Farmhouse is a lovely property. It has a nice, homely feel about it, very spacious with various living spaces. The location is ideal, just at the west end of the Crooked Lonnon, with fine walks from your doorstep. The centre of the village is less than five minutes away, while a 10 minute walk takes you to the sand dunes and the wonderful Sandham beach beyond. The property is superlatively well equipped, and furnishings warm and welcoming. Being part of a working farm is fine, although you have to be keen on being woken at 5 am by the roosters. Personally I thought that added to the charm. We would go back there tomorrow!!
