Park up your car (there’s room for two vehicles) and step inside your lodge and you’ll discover a light and bright, open-plan lounge/kitchen/dining area with a chic wood burner in pride of place. Take a moment to relax on the plush sofa and soak up the sleek Scandi-styling, before heading to the kitchen area to rustle up some dinner for your loved ones. Get everyone together to eat at the four-seater dining table, which boasts beautiful garden views through the floor-to-ceiling bi-fold doors. Alternatively, head out onto the lovely terrace in the partly-enclosed garden to share a fun alfresco dinner. Afterwards, take a relaxing dip in the outdoor hot tub, or head in to the lounge area to warm your toes by the wood burner while you catch up on your favourite TV show. When it’s time for bed, there are two beautifully styled bedrooms to choose from – a stylish double master suite, and a flexible twin room that can be converted to a king-size upon request. Completing the layout, you’ll find an elegant family bathroom with a bath and a separate shower.

Grab your walking gear and make a beeline for Highwoods Country Park (10 miles). Take a stroll along the woodland trails and you’re sure to spot some of the park’s 70 species of birds and 25 species of butterflies. Or head to Colchester Castle Museum (11.5 miles), which boasts the largest Norman keep in Europe. Check out the fascinating Roman artifacts and medieval displays in the museum.
