What an absolute gem of a place in an idyllic setting. It was hard to believe anyone had ever stayed here before as everything felt brand new.Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it stay again if we need to be in that area.Thank you so much for a fabulous 5 day stay.

The Shepherd’s Retreat provides beautifully appointed, comfortable accommodation. The setting is totally private and peaceful, yet only a few minutes drive from a local farm shop and cafe or from Ongar, which has all the amenities you could need. I had a lovely, relaxing 3 night stay and only wish I could have stayed longer. The family, who have owned Broomfields since 1946, are kind, helpful people, but leave you in peace to enjoy your break too. I read the memoir placed on the shelf in the hut on the first night and throughly enjoyed learning moreabout the history of Bloomfields. I was fortunate to meet Geoff, the author of the memoir, picking Plums in the orchard one afternoon and had a lovely chat with him. It was a memorable and utterly gorgeous break and I hope to stay there again soon.
