The roomy contemporary kitchen and dining area is kitted with all you need for home cooking. Steep, cottage-style stairs lead to the first floor, with a family bathroom and three inviting double bedrooms: one with an en-suite and two with ornamental period fireplaces, and up another steep set of stairs to the second floor, you will find a lovely twin bedroom.. Outside, an enclosed rear patio has seating and a BBQ.

The poet William Wordsworth spent his early years in Cockermouth. The National Trust now preserves his childhood home and the riverside gardens where he and his siblings played. Hike along the Buttermere Valley to see the impressive Scale Force waterfall or take the level footpath around the lake. Whinlatter Forest (7.5 miles) offers gorgeous views and thrills galore, with a Go Ape treetop adventure course, mountain biking and walking trails. Head for the pretty town of Keswick (17 miles), to hire a boat or take a cruise on Derwentwater for a wonderful view of the fells from the water.
