Our two-week stay at Wood Close, Springs Road, KeswickWe had a fantastic two-week stay at Wood Close and genuinely didn’t want to leave. Overall, we loved the house, garden and its location, although there were a couple of issues that I think are worth mentioning. The location was one of the highlights for us. It’s close enough to walk easily into the centre of Keswick, while at the same time you’re right on the doorstep of beautiful countryside. I particularly loved being able to head out early in the morning towards Castle Head and Walla Crag with the dog. It’s a brilliant base for exploring this part of the Lakes. We did unfortunately have a couple of maintenance issues when we arrived on the Friday. That evening we discovered that one of the downstairs window latches was faulty, meaning the window couldn’t be properly closed and secured. We contacted Cottages.com out of hours and were offered somebody coming out that night, although we were advised it could be very late, or having somebody attend the following day. We chose the following day rather than risk disturbing everyone in the house and the neighbours during the night. Because the window couldn’t be secured, however, I ended up sleeping on a chair in the living room that first night for peace of mind.We also discovered a leak underneath the new basin in the upstairs toilet, which we reported on the Saturday morning. We made sure one of us stayed at the house until maintenance arrived. To their credit, both issues were dealt with quickly on the Saturday and we had no further problems with them. The other issue when we arrived was that all of the outside bins were already full. In particular, we couldn’t use the general waste bin for around four days until it was emptied. This then had a knock-on effect because, once we were finally able to use it, it was soon full again. For a holiday property, especially one accommodating a family for two weeks, I think the bins really should be empty or have sufficient capacity ready for new guests arriving. There were also a couple of smaller things that weren’t deal-breakers but would improve the property. The seals appear to have failed in the main double-glazed bay window, leaving it looking cloudy/greasy between the panes. The actual glass had clearly been cleaned, so this wasn’t a cleanliness issue; the problem appears to be inside the sealed unit. It’s a shame because the bay window has beautiful views over the garden and surrounding countryside. We were lucky enough to see a fox, roe deer regularly and all sorts of birds, including buzzards and an owl. I enjoy wildlife photography and unfortunately found photographing them through the window difficult because of the failed glazing. We also found that the electrics weren’t working in the summer house. This wasn’t a big issue for us, but I thought it was worth mentioning.Despite these points, we really enjoyed staying here. The house and garden provided a spacious, comfortable and homely base for our family and our Labrador, Henry, and the location suited us brilliantly. After days spent walking and exploring Keswick and the surrounding fells, it was lovely to have somewhere like this to come back to. It’s honestly the nicest holiday home we’ve stayed in.We stayed for two weeks, and Keswick is a special place for us. This house just made our holiday all the better and we thoroughly enjoyed it.Probably the strongest recommendation we can give is that, despite the few issues mentioned above, we’ve already booked another two weeks here for next year. We’re very much looking forward to coming back.We would also like to thank the owner for all the thoughtful things they have added to the house. There are lots of little touches that make it feel particularly welcoming and homely, and it’s clear that a lot of thought and care has gone into making it a lovely place for people to stay.We hope that mentioning the few issues we experienced isn’t disheartening, as that certainly isn’t our intention. We felt they were worth mentioning honestly, but they didn’t change how much we enjoyed our stay or how highly we think of the house. It really is a wonderful holiday home in a fantastic location, and we’re very much looking forward to returning next year.

We had a fantastic stay - the location is fantastic, a short walk into Keswick but longer walks from the doorstep. The house is very well equipped with a lovely garden to sit in when not out walking! The only downside was the house was not cleaned to a very high standard. This has been flagged to cottages.com who have assured us it will be looked into.
