We had a fantastic stay at Branthwaite Stables, located just on the edge of the Lakes National Park, it’s a gem of a place, far away from the crowds, very tranquil and relaxing. If your big into hiking then this is a great base to head out from, there are some really nice local walks and your about 15-20 minutes drive away from the Skiddaw and Blencathra ranges. The cottage itself has everything you need really and has a really homely feel, I felt super comfortable and has a log burning stove for cosy nights in. As far as local amenities go you are out in the sticks so bring plenty of supplies or order in from one of the big supermarkets for ease, we do like to support local and the village of Caldbeck has a local shop and the Oddfellows pub about 10 mins drive away there’s also Hesket Newmarket which has a fantastic locally owned pub called the Old Crown which they have there own brewery so beers are top notch, we’d dropped on with the weather that week which really helped with the vibe, will definitely be back!
