Pooley Bridge is on Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The fast-flowing River Eamont left a big pool, and the term Bridge was added when a 250-year-old bridge was built across it. Pooley Bridge features traditional inns and tea rooms, and Ullswater Steamers depart from the village for a cruise to Glenridding and Howtown. A short hike up Dunmallard Hill exposes Iron-Age ruins, while Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is a great Lake District cottage base.
