Boxwood Cottage in Troutbeck is praised for its stunning views, cosy atmosphere, and well-equipped amenities. Guests appreciate the comfortable beds, cleanliness, and the cottage's suitability for dogs. The location is ideal for exploring the Lake District, with many enjoying the local walks and village amenities. Some guests noted issues with hot water and maintenance, but these do not detract from the overall positive experiences and many express a desire to return.

Most guests found the cottage to be clean and well-presented upon arrival. There were a few isolated comments about finding hairs in the shower tray and Christmas decorations under the sofa, suggesting room for improvement in attention to detail. However, the general consensus is that the property maintains a high standard of cleanliness.

The location is highly praised for its peacefulness, beautiful views, and proximity to local walks and amenities. The village of Troutbeck is appreciated for its charm, and the cottage's position is considered ideal for exploring the Lake District. The location contributes significantly to the positive experiences of the guests.

Guests consistently mention the comfortable beds and the cosy feel of the cottage, particularly highlighting the wood burning stove. Some guests felt the heating was insufficient on colder evenings, but overall, the cottage is regarded as a comfortable retreat.

The cottage is well-equipped according to guests, with a well-stocked kitchen and comfortable furnishings. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as fluctuating shower temperature, leaking gutters, and tired carpets. These issues suggest that while the facilities are generally good, there is a need for ongoing maintenance and updates.

While guests have mentioned appreciating various aspects of the cottage, there are no specific references to gifts or special touches provided by the hosts that would fall under the category of thoughtfulness. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score for this category.

About this property

Situated in the popular conservation area of Troutbeck this charming cottage is both quirky and modern, the epitome of contemporary chic. There is an excellent pub on the doorstep, along with lovely walks, fabulous views and a handy local shop both within half a mile of the cottage. Ambleside and Windermere are only a short drive from Boxwood Cottage, offering a tempting choice of restaurants, cafés and bars in addition to independent cinemas, a theatre and fabulous shops and boutiques. Beautiful Lake Windermere is equally close, served by regular cruises crossing between Bowness, Lakeside and Ambleside while car ferry takes visitors from Bowness over to Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top and the picturesque village of Hawkshead.

The cottage comes with a private parking space and a pretty garden, located adjacent to the parking space, complete with patio furniture. Entry is into a stunning open living space, beautifully furnished and gloriously welcoming. There are oak floors throughout, lovely log burning stove and superbly comfortable sofa and chairs. A decidedly splendid spot for relaxing with a good book, taking a nap or snuggling down to watch a film on the huge TV. The kitchen and dining area are extremely smart and well-equipped.

Upstairs are the two gorgeous bedrooms with comfortable beds and modern bathrooms. The king size room comes with a contemporary shower room with walk-in shower, basin and wc while the stylish double has use of a modern family bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and wc.

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. It had all the bits and bobs that you could need while away. The views were out of this world, sitting reading a book in the morning watching the sun over the hills from the living room was beautiful. The beds need their own mention, they were so very cosy even our 9 year old slept in every day!!

The location was perfect for hikes in the Far Eastern and eastern fells. The view from the living room and main bedroom window was amazing. The house was well-equipped and the beds comfortable. There was off street parking. I would highly recommend.

The cottage was spacious enough for the three of us plus dog, the kitchen is well equipped, and the beds are very comfortable. We love the views from the sitting room window, and it is great to be able to walk from the front door.
