Guests say

Ghyll Bank House is highly praised for its stunning views, spacious layout, and suitability for large family gatherings. Guests appreciate the peaceful location, ample parking, and well-equipped kitchen. The property is described as clean and comfortable, with friendly and helpful owners. While some mention dated decor and minor maintenance issues, these do not detract from the overall positive experience. The house is ideal for groups seeking a memorable stay in the Lake District countryside.

Most guests found the property clean and tidy, with several specifically complimenting the cleanliness of the house and the efforts of the cleaning staff. A few reviews noted minor oversights, such as needing to re-clean some kitchen equipment, but these were exceptions rather than the rule.

The location is consistently described as beautiful, peaceful, and offering spectacular views. Its proximity to Staveley and the Lake District attractions is a major highlight, though the approach road is narrow and may require careful driving.

Guests generally found the house spacious and comfortable for large groups, with plenty of room for children and adults alike. Some reviews mention uncomfortable beds and dated furnishings, but overall comfort levels remain high.

The property is well-equipped for large groups, with a spacious kitchen, multiple bathrooms, and ample dining and living space. Some guests noted minor maintenance issues (e.g., tired decor, broken toilet seats, and heating controls), but these did not significantly impact their stay.

Owners are frequently described as friendly, helpful, and responsive, sometimes providing candles during power cuts or checking in on guests. While some guests appreciated these gestures, it should be noted that such thoughtful touches are not guaranteed for every stay.

Staveley is situated between Kendal and Windermere and has gained a reputation as the Gateway to the Lakes. It is mainly comprised of picturesque, grey slate buildings, sandwiched between the Rivers Kent and Gowan. This once forested area was grazed as early as 4000BC. Iron Age farmers settled first and were followed by the English and Scandinavians and evidence of these early civilizations can be found throughout the region. The village has an excellent range of amenities including a variety of shops, three pubs, a craft shop and a Railway Station. Nearby, Windermere and Ambleside are better known than Chipping and offer a number of attractions such as boat trips on Lake Windemere and a ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park.

Everyone was happy with their bedroom choice. The house had everything you'd need or want we felt right at home. We made great use of the large dining room and lounge. The little ones loved it. You'll get a remote location with views all around. A nice touch as well is Mrs Beaty popping in on the first evening to see we were happy with everything. Would definitely recommend

The large living room, dining room and kitchen allowed us to spend quality time together. The location is remote and the approach is windy and narrow roads but this provides outstanding views and access to lots of wildlife. The cows and sheep in the adjacent fields were a big favourite of our 2 year old. A great time was had by all.

... we booked Ghyll Bank house last minute on the same day, as travelling home with two toddlers weren't an option it was a really long drive to get down to lake district in the first place. Anyways, about 40 minutes after making the booking we arrived at Ghyll Bank house and were greeted by Mr and Mrs Beaty, they were absolutely lovely!!! There was a clearner there cleaning who apologised to us for it being late, but honestly it wasn'tlate on their part or even their fault! They didnt know they were going to have a booking that same day and that they'd have to last limited change their plans to come work! He was so polite and lovely and did a wonderful job. We were so grateful they accepted our booking last minute! The property itself was absolutely stunning!!! It was great for our big family holiday, the toddlers loved having the huge space to run around in and us adults loved the view and the property itself! Would definitely book again if doing another big family holiday in lake district!
