Beckwood is a charming attached barn conversion near Keswick and Ullswater in the Lake District. This beautiful stone-built barn has been renovated throughout and enjoys stunning views of Blencathra and the Dodds. The cottage is large enough for a group or an extended family, with the ground floor boasting a contemporary kitchen with a range cooker and Belfast pot sink, perfect for preparing home-cooked meals, giving way to a large conservatory diner with floor to ceiling windows, where guests can enjoy spectacular views of the fell as they dine or socialise. The downstairs flooring is a mix of slate and polished oak, both with underfloor heating throughout, housing a welcoming lounge with sofas, recessed lighting, a flatscreen TV, and a toasty woodburning stove.
There is a double bedroom on the ground floor as well as a cloakroom with WC, utility room with washer/dryer and porch. Upstairs you'll find a master bedroom with a super king size bed, balcony, dressing room and en suite, as well as two twin bedrooms and a luxury family bathroom with a roll top bath and walk-in shower. The semi-enclosed back garden backs on to open pastures where sheep or ponies may wander. Before going I read a few reviews that dog walking was not welcome which I thought strange, but within an hour of getting there we found the Matterdale forest walk just up the road a bit where the dogs could get off the lead safely. Cottage was very comfortable, well equipped and warm as it was a cold but fine spell of weather, there were 5 of us in the party and ample room for everyone and our kit. Thoroughly recommend also note that logs were supplied for the wood burner

Great location close to Keswick and a number of eateries. Only criticism is a couple of the bedrooms require curtains to be fitted.

Firstly, the cottage was so hot and there was no instructions on the heating system or how to turn it down, including the underfloor heating. It seemed wasteful but we needed to open the doors and the windows as this was the only way to cool down the room! In the downstairs room however there is only skylights which, if it is raining, it will rain in and wet whatever is in the room so be careful. We also used the washing machine however this was dirty with a lot of white dog hair within it so would suggest this also needs cleaning by the owners after each use of the cottage. The owners also put a lot of restrictions on check out and implemented a 9am checkout which was a bit of a rush when we were asked to hoover, mop, separate all the bins, strip all the beds and leave everything better than how we found it. The upstairs shower was also broken however the owners did partially refund us which was generous of them. Overall we would come again and enjoyed our stay however, would recommend these issues above need looking into/more information within the property to avoid disappointment by others in the future.
