Hilltoft Barn is praised for its peaceful location with easy access to local attractions and walks. Guests enjoy the comfortable beds and the property's cosy atmosphere. The nearby pub adds to the charm, offering a welcoming environment and good food. While the barn is well-furnished and has potential, guests have noted several maintenance issues that need addressing.
The property generally appears to be clean, with specific compliments on its tidiness. However, some guests have mentioned the presence of cobwebs and handprints on windows, suggesting room for improvement in cleaning standards.
The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to a local pub, and accessibility to walking routes and the Lake District. It is considered a superb base for outdoor activities.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the living areas cosy. The property offers a relaxing environment, although some have mentioned issues with the shower temperature and a broken blind affecting comfort.
While the property is equipped with necessary amenities, recurring issues with the freezer, shower, and kitchen tap, as well as broken items, indicate a need for better maintenance and facility management.
There are no specific mentions of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness. The provision of dog towels is a considerate gesture, but without more evidence of consistent thoughtfulness, a score cannot be given.
In a tranquil location, this beautifully finished barn conversion is an ideal spot for a couple or two to enjoy a Lake District break..

The location of this cottage is wonderful, it’s peaceful, lots of walks around and near a lovely pub. Unfortunately it’s a little uncared for. There’s a blind in the main bedroom that doesn’t work and looking in the visitors book, it was noted o er a year ago. It just feels a little uncared for. But that’s all forgiven because of the location.

This property comes with a large BUT……We stayed here 2years ago and there were issues; freezer didn’t work, outside lights didn’t work , blind broken, tile broken , shower not great, utensils needed looking at etc etc - however , the location, outlook & design is great and works for us for an event we do.. so, we returned… the shower wasn’t working & a new one was waiting inside the front door when we arrived! The freezer still isn’t working, the main windows had hand prints all over them, a curtain tie back fell out of the wall, the outside lights still don’t work , and a single rubber oven glove isn’t great. The letting company contacted us about the shower too late as we had already arrived.. but, they were great, offered other accommodation, or a refund, or, because we were committed to staying there with events planned , we got a partial refund. The shower was replaced on the Tuesday and is working fine. The owners really need to get a grip here. It’s a great property that deserves more TLC. We still enjoyed the stay, sitting out watching sheepdogs work is our bag. And it’s a superb base for walking, riding or heading deeper into the Lakes. We both feel for the cleaners as it’s a barn conversion with very high cobwebs that need a specialist duster!

The cottage layout was good. Comfortable beds and lounge area. The location was amazing. The freezer didn't work the fridge was not working properly, the shower would stay warm and there was tissue paper blocking up a hole.
