About this property

3 High Melbourne Street is a stylish house resting in Bishop Auckland, Durham. Offering two double bedrooms and an stylish base for families and friends looking to explore this fascinating part of the county, with the River Wear also within easy reach. Park at the roadside and make your way inside, stepping through the hallway before settling into the living/dining room. Colour gives this home plenty of personality, with pink and green hues bringing an upbeat feel to the dining area, where you can gather over breakfast and map out the adventures ahead. Later, settle into the corner sofa and enjoy a favourite programme or film on the Smart TV, set against a striking green wall.

Continue into the kitchen, where hot-pink fixtures add another burst of colour. Put together anything from an easy breakfast to an evening meal using the gas hob and electric oven, warm up quick bites in the microwave, then let the dishwasher take care of the plates while the washing machine handles any clothes from the day's adventures. When evening arrives, climb the stairs and choose between two double bedrooms, including one with its own TV. In the morning, take your time getting ready in the bathroom, where patterned floor tiles and soft-pink wall tiles frame a freestanding bath and walk-in shower.

Slip into the bath for a leisurely soak, freshen up beneath the shower before heading out, and reach for a warm towel from the heated rail. At the rear, the yard provides the property's outside space, while everything you need for an easy stay is conveniently close at hand. Pick up essentials at the shop a short walk away, stroll to the nearby pub for a drink, or head a little over a mile towards the River Wear. There is plenty to discover beyond the doorstep too. Head into Bishop Auckland and spend time exploring Auckland Castle, where the historic setting offers an absorbing introduction to the area's heritage, before discovering more of the town and enjoying a wander through its surroundings.

Venture to Durham for a day amid one of the North East's best-known cityscapes, taking in Durham Cathedral, admiring Durham Castle and strolling beside the River Wear as it curves through the city. Another rewarding outing takes you towards Barnard Castle, where you can visit the imposing castle above the River Tees, browse the collections at The Bowes Museum and take time to explore the characterful market town. Return to 3 High Melbourne Street in Bishop Auckland at the end of each outing, ready to relax together and plan another day discovering County Durham.

Bishop Auckland is a busy market town, 11 miles to the south of Durham and is home to the Gothic palace of Auckland Castle and deer park, a 900 year old medieval hunting lodge and grounds, once home to the Prince Bishop’s of England. Bishop Auckland offers a thriving arts and cultural scene with a cinema, theatre and arts complex. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the town centre and an abundance of shops to peruse. On the outskirts of the town you can discover the secrets of the largest Roman Fort in the county at Binchester or perhaps book a night at Kynren, a spectacular night show depicting the history of England, seen through the eyes of Arthur, a 10 year old boy from the North East, (opening July 2016) and marvel at the pyrotechnics, stunning lighting and water effects. There is a scenic railway line which runs from Bishop Auckland to Stanhope. It was purchased quite recently by Jonathan Ruffer the man behind the Auckland Project and instrumental in bringing Kynren to Bishop Auckland. The city of Durham is just a short drive north with an array of shops, pubs and restaurants, and a little further will take you to the Roman town of Chester-le-Street or Beamish Museum. A little further afield you can discover the Durham Dales, Newcastle upon Tyne, Hadrian's Wall, the Heritage Coast, Cragside at Rothbury and the North York Moors; there’s something for everyone.
