The town has a strong local community spirit with a small beach and pretty little beach huts for hire, and has a busy Sunday market, popular with tourists and locals. Boat trips can be taken over to Coquet Island, a rspb bird sanctuary.

Exploring is easy from here, with Alnwick only 10 miles away. Its castle is the location where some scenes were shot for the Harry Potter films, as well as the TV series, Downton Abbey. The picture postcard village of Warkworth, 5 miles, is dominated by the castle at the top of the street. Continuing up the coast you will reach Seahouses and Bamburgh, and further on is Holy Island, where you can cross when the tide is out (check tides). This whole area is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with miles of unspoilt golden beaches, castles and friendly villages, and Amble is situated at the start of it.

Hadrian’s Wall can be easily reached to the west via a good road network, and you can visit museums and see the wall where the Romans lived. Alnmouth railway station is just a few miles away, where you can leave the car and hop on a train to Edinburgh, York or Newcastle for a day’s sightseeing in beautiful cities.
