Wooler, sometimes known as "The Gateway to The Cheviots," is a great base from which to explore the rest of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. Located on the border of Northumberland National Park, Wooler is not far from either the mediaeval town of Alnwick and its world-famous Castle and Gardens or the well-preserved Garrison town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Chillingham Castle, home to a legendary herd of wild white cattle, and Coldstream, on the Scottish side of the border, are both easily accessible by car.
