We enjoyed a lovely week at 17 10. It is located in a hamlet of just a few houses at the end of a no through road, so was super quiet. The nearest shops are a short drive away, in Brampton, which has a good selection of pubs, cafés and takeaways. There is a bridleway/footpath from the cottage to Castle Carrock, the nearest village. It's about a 20 minute walk but worth it for the excellent food and real ale at The Duke of Cumberland pub (closed Mon & Tue). The Cottage has quite steep stairs which might be an issue for some. It was well-equipped for two of us, but a BBQ would have been nice to have, especially as the weather was so good. There is practically no phone signal at the property (Vodafone) but that wasn't really an issue for us. There was also no Internet (landline or 4G) when we arrived due to a fault on the line. An engineer turned up to fix it later in the week so we had connectivity via the router, but again, I can't say we really missed it; it was actually quite liberating to be without it! Julie, the owner, was very helpful and compensated us generously (cheers!) for the router issue. There is loads to do in the local area. We visited Talkin Tarn, climbed Talkin Fell, went to Hadrians Wall and Lanercost Priory, visited Hexham and Haltwistle, and did numerous walks from the property. Would we stay here again? Absolutely!
