About this property

Lake Cottage is a charming 200 year-old cottage with a private jetty on beautiful Hawes Water Lake, an unspoiled nature reserve teeming with birds and wildlife yet close to the village and seaside beaches at Silverdale and Arnside on Morecambe Bay. Enjoy miles of glorious walks right from the doorstep or take a short drive to the nearby Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Cumbria and Trough of Bowland in Lancashire. The sunny courtyard is perfect for summer barbeques with lawned gardens, wildflower sitting areas and small orchard leading onto a 100m boardwalk meandering through willows and reedbeds to emerge at the lake and jetty. Swim in crystal-clear water, relax with a book, have a fish, watch dragonflies or just immerse in the sounds of the swallows, buntings and warblers. The traditionally-furnished cottage with its farmhouse kitchen, inglenook range and log-burning stove is warm and cosy in autumn and winter and a delight in spring and summer. The recently refurbished bathroom has a

Please note: Saturday start day and a minimum stay of 5 nights.

Lake Cottage is located at the end of a quiet country lane bordering the beautiful Hawes Water Lake in the Silverdale & Arnside aonb. It is adjacent to the nature reserve and guests have boardwalk access to the owner's lakeside cabin and jetty for swimming and fishing... or simply enjoying the beautiful lake views with its resident otters, kingfishers and marsh harriers.

Fully refurbished a few years ago the cottage is the owner’s own lakeland retreat and is fully equipped with a well-stocked pantry, books and maps, games and hi-fi, making it a true ‘home from home’ the minute you walk through the door. It is a characterful, stone-built cottage which retains many original features including exposed beams, inglenook fireplace with log-burning stove and range oven with rooms thoughtfully furnished and decorated in a style sympathetic to its past.

Accommodation is offered for up to four people, with one double and one twin bedroom, both having long views over the marsh and lake to the woods and hills beyond. The period bathroom is newly fitted, with pine flooring, spacious shower and heated towel radiator. The living room is warm and cosy with antique furniture, rugs and many original artworks, whilst the quarry-tiled kitchen is very well equipped with standalone units, dresser and farmhouse table helping retain a homely ambience whilst offering comprehensive cooking and self-catering facilities including coffee-machine, microwave, fridge and large double oven.

Outside is a sunny gravelled courtyard with Weber and picnic table – ideal for summer breakfasts and barbeques! Steps lead to the lawned garden which has sitting areas in both sun or shade and a newly-planted wildflower/meadowed area that is often frequented by deer in the early mornings. A path meanders through a willow arch and small orchard to the reedbed, where an 80 metre boardwalk takes you through overhanging hazel, alder and willow trees to the lakeside. Guests have the use of a large timber cabin overlooking the lake with a private jetty, picnic table and swimming ladder. The cabin has a dining table, chairs and sofa with bi-folds opening to give glorious views of the lake. The lake is spring fed and fringed with lilies in summer with crystal clear water that is perfect for swimming and fishing and teems with wildlife.

The cottage is just a mile from Silverdale village with its pubs and shops, and four miles from the larger villages of Arnside and Carnforth. It sits at a gateway to the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Trough of Bowland, giving access to a wide range of outdoor amenities, although with wonderful woodland walks in all directions from the front door there is often little need to venture far.
