Bakewell is a charming little market town with a rural feel that offers a nice assortment of stores, eateries, and bars in addition to regional farmers markets. The town's historic market hall dates back to the 17th century, and a contemporary recreation facility with a pool is close by. In the Peak District National Park, Bakewell is conveniently located for visiting this stunning area. Within reasonable driving distance are Britain's top theme park, Alton Towers, as well as the rocky Dark Peak and the softer limestone White Peak. The spectacular caverns in neighbouring Castleton and Little John's burial site in Hathersage are both well worth a visit, as are the other stately homes to be visited, including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, and Hardwick Hall to name a few.

The pool and games room were the reason we booked here and we are glad we did. The pool was warm and private and despite being shared we had it to ourselves at times. The games tables were excellent for the children too and they have now taken a keen interest in table tennis! Lovely big field ideal for my dogs in the morning. The cottage was very comfortable with all the accessories you needed. Beds were the most comfortable beds weâve ever slept on whilst on holiday. The cottage was very clean and the area was quiet. The welcome items were much appreciated and having the washing up liquid was a plus - an antibacterial spray would have been handy too. The heating was excellent - so warm and toasty - especially the underfloor heating in the bathrooms. Overall a lovely relaxing short break and we are looking to book again later on in the year.
