A well-presented cottage perched on a hilltop with wonderful panoramic views across the Derbyshire countryside; this quaint hideaway is ideal for a couple or small family seeking a retreat in a quiet corner of the Peak District. Grab the bikes and follow the High Peak Trail passing by an abundance of local wildlife and limestone crags, then crack open an ice-cold drink and soak in the sweeping vistas from the front garden.
This inviting country property benefits from light-flooded social spaces and blends calming neutral tones with bright splashes of colour. Step up the external stairs into the porch where you can store muddy boots and outdoor gear. Pad through to the kitchen/diner and pop a bottle, prepare some locally sourced goodies, then feast around the dining table and debrief on the day’s adventures. Retreat to the airy lounge and cosy up on the plush sofa with a sweet treat and a film on the TV. Rest up in the sleeping areas, consisting of a welcoming king-size room with coordinated rich tones and wooden furniture and a cosy single room. Enjoy a tranquil morning coffee perched outside on the bistro set surrounded by lush foliage and rustic stonework wall to the rear of the property, or embrace the serene views from the front.
Keen geologists can scope out the fossil trails at the National Stone Centre, 1 mile, or explore the bustling woodlands and weathered outcrop of Black Rocks, 1.5 miles. History buffs can brush up on their local knowledge with a visit to nearby Wirksworth and stroll the narrow lanes then refuel with a traditional pub lunch, 2 miles. Don’t miss a visit to Carsington Water for a kayaking or sailing session, 5 miles.
