Guests say

Galena Cottage receives high praise for its tasteful decoration, spaciousness, and excellent location with easy access to walks and local attractions. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities, comfortable furnishings, and the thoughtful touches provided, including a welcome pack and dog-friendly amenities.

The cottage is consistently described as very clean, with only one mention of a dirty pan and greasy air fryer. The overwhelmingly positive remarks suggest a high standard of cleanliness.

The location is highly regarded for its proximity to walking trails and local attractions. However, one review mentioned the close proximity to a busy road as a slight drawback.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with super king-sized beds and cosy living spaces. The presence of multiple bathrooms and a large garden adds to the comfort level.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and utility area. However, there are minor maintenance issues mentioned, such as a non-working radiator and the need for draft exclusion.

The welcome pack and provisions for dogs are frequently mentioned and appreciated. While these gestures are highly valued, it should be noted that such gifts are offered at the owners' discretion and may not be guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Tideswell 3 miles. A lovely, spacious detached cottage with excellent views and extensive gardens in the rural village of Wardlow, close to Tideswell. This delightful cottage is perfectly placed for families or groups to enjoy the very best that the Peak District National Park has to offer. This attractive cottage has been sympathetically modernised with a tasteful combination of contemporary furniture and soft furnishings. Many of the original period features, such as beamed ceilings and quarry tile floors, have been preserved. The three bedrooms, two of which have en-suite showers, are spacious with lovely views, and can be offered as super king-size doubles or twin beds, making the cottage very adaptable to the particular needs of your family or group.

Also the family bathroom is a great place for a luxurious soak or tired muscle therapy. The farmhouse-style kitchen with dining area is an ideal place to gather for a hearty meal, while your group debates which of the myriad of things to do next. There is an attractive sitting room with woodburning stove, as well as a snug with open fireplace, if you wish to be far from the madding crowd. The utility room and the two halls means there’s plenty of space to hang up coats and park muddy boots, and there’s even a bed and supply of toys for Fido!

Outside, the extensive gardens, with open views of the surrounding countryside, afford maximum sun worship. If you are either a mountain or road cyclist, you will already know that this part of the world is a two-wheel heaven, so it’s good to know there is also a garage where your trusty steed can be stabled securely. A large choice of pubs, eateries and shops are available in the neighbouring pretty villages of Ashford-in-the-Water, Great Longstone and Tideswell. With fantastic walks, rides, and tourist attractions all within easy reach, this is a cottage which can offer a superb holiday at any time of year.

The village of Tideswell stands in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Famous for its fine church dedicated to St John the Baptist, known as "The Cathedral of the Peak", the village is also noted for its well dressing and carnival wakes. There is excellent walking with rugged peaks to the north, gentle hills and dales to the south and Millers Dale just outside the village.

Everything you could need in the kitchen including a welcome pack. Plenty of room for 6 adults and 2 dogs. 3 big double bedrooms with super comfy beds. Brilliant practical space for dogs with enclosed garden and 2 log fires. Easy to get to Bakewell, Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. Will definitely be going back - probably the best cottage we’ve stayed in.

We were kept warm at a chilly time of year and slept well at nignt. Our only suggestion is that the sign for Galena Cottage be repainted, as it was hard to read when looking for the house originally.

The cottage is lovely, and is well equipped. Everything is clean and there is a very good welcome pack for humans and dogs. The pillows were a bit soft, so if you prefer a firmer pillow to aid sleep, then bring your own. We liked Cromford mill and the canal walk and visited Hardwick, a N. Trust house, which is lovely inside and out in the grounds. (we also combined this with a trip to the Denby pottery factory shop.) Thornbridge estate about 3 miles from Galena is worth a visit The gardens and tea rooms are lovely. R. H. S members get in free mid week. We also went for a nice walk at Ladybower reservoir. Locally, there is a Co-op and good fish and chip shop in Tideswell. We arranged for a Morrisons delivery and picked up supplies from Aldi on the way to Bakewell. We also bought a nice lunch at the Yonderman cafe at the bottom of the road to Wardlow, where it meets the A road to Sheffield. We will definitely return, Galena is lovely, and there is so much to do within 20 miles and beyond. It was a lovely week, the weather was mixed
