Guests say

The Loft offers a charming and spacious rural retreat with beautiful countryside views, friendly owners, and a welcoming atmosphere. Guests particularly enjoy the hot tub and sauna, as well as the property's character and proximity to scenic walks and local pubs. The setting is peaceful and ideal for families, dog lovers, and those seeking relaxation. While some guests noted areas for improvement in cleanliness, maintenance, and the provision of essentials, the overall experience is positive, with many guests keen to return and recommend the property.

Most guests found the property clean and tidy, but several reviews mention issues such as cobwebs, dirty kitchenware, and a need for better upkeep in some areas. A few guests had to clean on arrival or noted maintenance issues in the hot tub area. Overall, cleanliness is generally acceptable but could be improved.

The location is widely praised for its stunning views, peaceful rural setting, and easy access to walks and local attractions. Guests appreciate the beautiful countryside and proximity to the Peak District, making it an excellent base for exploring the area.

Guests frequently mention comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and a cosy atmosphere. Some found the property cold on arrival or noted the inconvenience of interconnecting bedrooms and low beams, but overall comfort is rated highly, especially for short stays.

The hot tub and sauna are standout features and much appreciated by guests. The property is well-equipped for cooking and family stays, though some mention worn-out furniture, lack of certain kitchen items, and maintenance issues with appliances. Facilities are generally good, with room for minor improvements.

Guests found the owners friendly and helpful, and appreciated the welcoming atmosphere. However, several reviews mention the absence of a welcome pack, basic supplies, or information booklet. No gifts were mentioned, and guests would have appreciated more thoughtful touches and clearer instructions.

About this property

A superb, stone-built, Grade II listed detached cottage, in open countryside in the hamlet of Millthorpe, 5 miles from Baslow. Converted from a stable block, most of the accommodation is set over the first floor, including the split-level living room with cruck beams, a cosy sitting area and a games area with a bar billiard table. The accommodation offers exposed stonework and original beams, plus private use of a hot tub and sauna. The lovely courtyard garden provides fantastic views, whilst within walking distance is an award-winning pub, serving real ales and fabulous food. Within reach of the many walks and attractions of the area, this is an ideal base to get away from it all and enjoy the magnificent Peak District.

On the edge of the Peak District National Park between Bakewell and Sheffield is the hamlet of Millthorpe with splendid views of the Cordwell Valley. The hamlet is set among rolling countryside and the neighbouring villages are made up of traditional old houses and buildings. The area has a number of hostelries and restaurants waiting to be discovered and Hathersage is close by with more in the way of amenities. In the summer there is an outdoor pool, the churchyard is said to be the burial place of Little John, and Charlotte Bronte is thought to have got her inspiration for Jane Eyre after she had visited friends in Hathersage, so despite its small size, Millthorpe has had quite an influence on its surrounding area. With both the Peak District and Sheffield so close, Millthorpe is an ideal base for a holiday.

Clean and lovely, helpful owners. Jacuzzi was great and nice field for pup to play. Brilliant.

Very clean and the loft is big. However there is no washing machine so it may be hard for those staying for more than a few days. Also theres 2 big wooden beams in the rooms which we banged out heads on but we still had a lot of fun :)
