If you can, make sure you have enough groceries at the start of your stay to keep you going, as there are no shops left in Hollingbourne, meaning you can't just pop out for a pint of milk, etc. It's easier for those with a car; as we didn't, though, we spent a bit of time locating shops. However, the welcome pack left by Vivienne was more than enough for our first evening (we'd brought some food with us) so we were very grateful for it (and the fizzy wine)! There are Co-ops in Harrietsham and Lenham, easily reached by train, and, I believe, superstores further afield. Lenham is an attractive village, with a market square and range of shops, cafes and pubs, worth a visit. As for Hollingbourne, it is beautiful and peaceful with friendly locals; a quintessential English village. You can join the North Downs Way and Pilgrims Way a short way up the road from Green Trees and we climbed the hill to a viewpoint over the Downs, where you can watch the sun go down - take a torch to find your way back, and for finding your way round the village, as the street lighting is not good in places! If you're leaving the car behind, there is a tarmac path that takes you from the church, across a field and reaching the main road just by the primary school. From there, it's just a short walk to the railway station. If you have time, visit the Signal Box Cafe there, run by the community, which is dog friendly. We walked our dog in the playing field and also Hollingbourne Meadows. We ate at the Windmill in Hollingbourne and the Oak on the Green in Bearsted, both of which we would recommend. Green Trees is more like a home than a holiday cottage. This is evidenced by the good quality furnishings and crockery and the log fire. Vivienne was hospitable and, though we had no problems, we felt sure she would have sorted them out quickly. Thank you!

We had a lovely stay at Green Trees. The cottage was very comfortable and mainly well equipped, although we thought a property for 4 people should have had more than three mugs and two cups and saucers! There was plenty of hot water and the heating worked well. The Wi-fi was pretty good. We enjoyed a log fire on our final evening. Our dog found it very relaxing and it was good to have an enclosed garden. We had no problem parking in the road, usually right outside the entrance!
