Guests say

Gull House offers a unique and peaceful stay in an unbeatable location right by the beach, with the added charm of the steam railway and a popular pub next door. Guests consistently praise the beautiful surroundings, dog-friendly atmosphere, and well-equipped kitchen. While some mention the property could benefit from a deep clean and a few updates, most found it comfortable and practical for families and dog owners. The garden and outdoor space are highlights, and the area is perfect for walks and fresh local fish. Wi-Fi can be unreliable, but this rarely detracts from the overall experience.

Several guests noted that the property could be cleaner, mentioning issues such as dusty skirting boards, greasy kitchen surfaces, and windows needing attention. However, other reviews described the cottage as clean and tidy, suggesting standards may vary.

The location is universally praised, with guests loving the proximity to the beach, steam railway, pub, and fish shop. The peaceful, scenic setting and access to walks are standout features.

Many guests found the cottage comfortable, especially the beds and living areas, but some mentioned uncomfortable mattresses and pillows, as well as issues with light in the bedrooms. The spacious layout and cosy atmosphere are positives.

The kitchen is generally well-equipped, and the property offers good amenities for families and dog owners. However, some guests noted maintenance issues such as stiff doors, lack of blackout curtains, and unreliable Wi-Fi. The absence of a washing machine was mentioned by families.

There are no specific mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

Gull House sits right on the border of Lydd-on-Sea overlooking Dungeness and its picturesque shingle beach. Dungeness is a tiny fishing hamlet at the southernmost point of Kent, but it certainly does have a lot to offer! A range of fishing boats and converted wooden shacks having been turned into architectural delights providing sanctuary from a busy life, sit between the abundance of birdlife that call Dungeness home. Perfect for families wanting a beach holiday, ramblers and dog walkers for long walks or bird watchers with rspb Dungeness nature reserve nearby. If you prefer to hire a bike in Dungeness, you can cycle over Europe’s largest expanse of shingle.

Gull House really does offer something for everyone. The mixture of scenery is set within the backdrop of Dungeness lighthouse which assisted ships in trouble in the English Channel up until 1960. From the top of the lighthouse, you will be able to see miles across both Dungeness and Romney Marsh. You can watcht the sun rise from the back garden. Comfortable, functional shabby chic house with a beach theme throughout, Gull House is very welcoming and the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Offering a large open plan living room and dining room downstairs with a separate kitchen the doors to the rear of the property look directly over the shingle and beyond. Upstairs the property boasts two double bedrooms, a twin bedroom, and a single bedroom. A newly fitted toilet upstairs complements the new family bathroom downstairs with a large walk-in shower, perfect for washing off the sea water after a day on the beach. Of an evening, the enclosed garden provides the perfect spot to relax and for al fresco dining, however, no light pollution from streetlights makes it the perfect spot for star gazing. Gull House also welcomes your furry friends to join in the fun!

Running alongside the property during the day is the steam railway so you will be able to wave at tourists or locals as they head across the landscape to explore further. This is just one of the exciting quirks that the landscape has to offer. A hop over the tracks leads you to the local pub within a few steps along with a fresh seafood shop also selling other groceries opposite. You have everything to hand to be able to relax and enjoy your stay. Should you wish to explore further afield then towns such as Rye, Camber, New Romney, and Ashford are all a short drive away and offer a variety of other attractions. Camber and its sand dunes stretching for miles offer an alternative to the shingle and the historic town of Rye with its cobbled streets and historic buildings makes for a great day out. Hythe to the east and Hastings to the west are both worth a visit.

We had a lovely time at Gull house. Had everything we needed and so close to the beach and the light railway and pub with huge portions next door.

Quiet, clean, stone beach that goes on for miles. Pub/restaurant next door, tea/ coffee fresh fish and fishing gear in the shop opposite. Chip shop, kebab shop, small supermarket a 10 mins drive away. Beds comfortable and plenty of towels. Kitchen kitted out with everything you need to cook and serve. The front door was a little stiff to open and close but the garden door is another option. Seaside shabby sheek at its best, loved it.

We had a great time again on our third visit to this property. To be picky, the windows looking out on the scenery needed cleaning.
