Guests say

West View offers a peaceful and well-equipped base for exploring Dorset, with a secure garden ideal for dogs and a games room for entertainment. Guests appreciate the comfortable beds, cosy lounge, and quiet location. However, some reviews mention that the property and garden would benefit from additional maintenance, and there are occasional concerns about cleanliness and dated interiors. The property is well-suited for those seeking a tranquil retreat with easy access to local attractions.

Several guests found the property clean and tidy, but others noted issues such as mould, cobwebs, and occasional lapses in deep cleaning. Bedding was generally reported as clean, though some areas, particularly bathrooms and kitchen, could be improved.

The cottage is praised for its quiet, secluded setting and convenient access to local towns and attractions. Its location is ideal for dog walking and exploring Dorset, though a car is necessary due to the rural setting and lack of footpaths.

Guests frequently mention comfortable beds, a cosy lounge, and a peaceful atmosphere. The property is well-suited for relaxation, though some found the lounge dark due to overgrown bushes and noted a slightly musty smell.

The property is well-equipped for self-catering, with a games room and secure garden. However, some facilities are dated or in need of repair, and a few advertised items were missing or not as described. Maintenance of outdoor areas and some appliances could be improved.

While some guests appreciated the owner's responsiveness and the provision of essentials, others noted the absence of a welcome pack and out-of-date items left in cupboards. Gifts or welcome packs are not guaranteed.

Many of the issues outlined below are contained in previous reviews up to 9 months ago and a recent one a week ago which raised several issues. There had been talk of needing to cut the bushes at the front of the house as made it dark and obscured any view. I raised concerns, with the caretaker 2 days before, who referred me to the owner Kelvin, about the recent review. The response from the owner was that most had been resolved but that he wasn't going to cut trees down to improve the view and can't help that his barn burnt down". The burnt down barn is the view from the back of the property so clearly either way the property is misleading calling itself West View. Given his curt response I didn't feel comfortable raising some of the other issues we, and other visitors, encountered. The issues are as follows:1. The pictures on the site, as noted by other reviewers are very misleading. Had we been able to see current photos - particularly with a massive burnt out metal barn, adjacent to the property, we would never have booked there.2. As noted by previous reviewers the curtains in at least one of the bedrooms were mouldy as was the space at the floor next to the bedside cabinet. 3. The bathroom ceiling is mouldy .4. The kitchen ceiling above the sink area and all the way along is mouldy. Neither 2,3,4, are conducive to those who suffer with asthma, such as myself.I4. In both showers the drain cap appears not to have been lifted or cleaned as both were dirty and fully of hair.5. The carpet in the living room has what looked like cigarette burns and stains. 6. Similarly the hall carpet had several stains along with one of the bedrooms.7. The oven was dirty and unusable - fortunately we took our Ninja Crispi.8. Not all items in the games room were either there or had items missing. 9.There are no umbrellas for shade in the garden for either the chair and table set or the picnic table (which has seen better days).10. The path to the back gate is overgrown and dangerous from hanging branches. Either side of the back gate was overgrown with weeds (which I cleared). |11. The front garden is inaccessible as so overgrown.12. There was no Welcome pack and the review book was completely full - noting some reviews raised the same issues in previous years.13. Given the majority of the week was spent in 38 degrees heat it would have been considerate for either Danielle the Caretaker or Kelvin the owner to make contact to check we were ok or needed fans. This is definitely not 4* accommodation which is what we were looking for and expecting when we booked it.

The photos of the outside, in the advert, are very misleading. They must have been taken at least 15 years ago. The hedges and front garden now totally obscure the property. There is no view, west or otherwise from inside, which also makes inside very dark. The windows are dirty and full of cobwebs, as is the front porch. Interior is dated, as shown on photos but we accept that, However there are cobwebs on most ceilings. The curtains in one bedroom were mouldy. Bathroom ceiling is mouldy. The microwave was rusty inside. The owner did replace this 2 days after informing him. The freezer drawers were frozen shut, with frost on outside. The owner did try to rectify this when told but it returned within 2 days. The kitchen fire extinguisher was out of date in 2006. The frying pans non stick surface was peeling, so we bought our own. No obvious instruction pack/ greeting manual. No welcome pack, as advertised. An empty washing up liquid bottle. A replacement was promised, never materialised. Many items in cupboards, presumably left by previous guests, were out of date, some by years. Needs stock control. Back garden is next to a large rusty corrugated building that has burned down and is now fenced off with industrial fencing. The garden furniture is dirty. On a positive note the bedding was clean and comfortable and there was plenty of hot water.
