Babblebrook Cottage is grade II listed and was originally constructed as one of the gamekeepers and gardeners cottages for workers at Caerhays Estate, a mere ½ mile down the road, it is a pretty, traditional, dog-friendly, cottage with lovely rural views and a mature garden in an amazing location. There is a cosy living room with wood burning stove and comfortable seating and a separate dining room with an ornamental fireplace and a well-equipped kitchen area. A tranquil garden with mature trees and shrubs leads down to a stream that burbles along the bottom edge of the cottage and ensures the most relaxing environment. The garden is beautiful with several seating areas, ideal for a morning coffee, reading a book in the afternoon or an alfresco barbecue in the evening. Pheasants often potter through the garden and can be heard crowing in the hedgerows. The coastal path is within easy reach and there is a plethora of amazing walks straight from the doorstep.

Porthluney Beach, locals’ favourite, is just down the hill and is a perfect spot for a family day out, either swimming or playing on the beach, the surf here is inconsistent, but it is certainly beautiful. Caerhays estate dominates the other side of the valley with gorgeous woodland walks and stunning gardens that are best enjoyed during spring. There is so much to do here, exploring the Roseland peninsula from Mevagissey and Gorran Haven to the east, all the way through Portholland, Portloe, Veryan, Portscatho and St Mawes to the west. Events on the Roseland reach fever point in August when sailing regattas, carnivals, fayres and fun days take place all over the Roseland and the waters of the Carrick Roads. It is a memorable place for many people who return year after year to enjoy the magic of this beautiful place. Beach ¼ mile.

Lovely big cottage in a very peaceful location, off the beaten track. 10/15 mins walk down a scenic footpath (a long steep hill worth knowing if you’re on crutches!) to the beach at Porthluney, or a 5 min drive (parking in the spaces on the road is free for 2 hours so we didn’t use the carpark which has cameras and I believe is very quick to fine you if you’re over your time!). The beach was quiet and contrary to some bad press, clean for swimming (if you check the stats from the regular water testing you can see that a bad spike several months ago has skewed the rating). Cafe with ice creams open intermittently, probably more regularly when the weather is good which it wasn’t particularly for us! But that speaks volumes about the cottage - we loved our holiday in spite of the weather and for those not after the bright lights of a busier resort, it is perfect. Close to the coastal path for dog walks, and a short drive to Gorran Haven for shops/cafes and another lovely beach.
