Guests say

Guests consistently praise Battens for its idyllic setting, welcoming hosts, and well-equipped facilities. The property's farm location, complete with animals and a games room, adds to the charm and provides a tranquil retreat. The thoughtful touches, such as homemade produce, contribute to the positive experience, making it a highly recommended stay for both families and pet owners.

Reviews frequently commend the property for its cleanliness, with guests describing the interior as very nice, modern, and clean. No negative comments regarding cleanliness suggest a high standard is maintained.

The location is celebrated for its tranquility and picturesque countryside views. Guests enjoy the proximity to local attractions and beaches, despite some finding the narrow roads challenging. The rural charm is a highlight for many.

Comfort is a recurring theme, with guests finding the sofas and beds to be lovely and comfortable. The spaciousness and warmth of the cottage contribute to a relaxing stay, although a mention of a wobbly kitchen table suggests a minor issue.

The property boasts a well-stocked games room and farm animals, which are a hit with families. The well-equipped kitchen and outdoor spaces are appreciated. Some guests suggest improvements such as a more stable kitchen table and a downstairs shower, indicating room for minor enhancements.

The hosts' thoughtfulness is evident through the provision of welcome packs, including farm-fresh eggs, homemade cake, and apple juice. While these gifts are warmly received, it's important to note that such personal touches, though common, may vary with each stay.

About this property

4 miles from Colyton, deep in thick, lush hedgerow lanes in the Coly Valley, is the sleepy hamlet of Northleigh, 5 to 7 miles from the lovely coastal villages of Beer, Sidmouth and Branscombe. On the edge of Northleigh, three cottages converted from traditional Devon barns on a small mixed farm raising beef, free range poultry and a few piglets. Battens has a front door from the courtyard into the open plan living space with a seating area, dining area and well equipped kitchen, plus glazed doors which lead you out to your patio. On the same level you have a handy twin bedroom, or head up the stairs to two more bedrooms and the family bathroom. This is a charming cottage for a fabulous country break. This property can be booked with The Linney (976057) and the Shippen (976058) and together they sleep 14.

Beer is a small picturesque fishing village on the south Devon coast near Seaton. The shingle beach is very sheltered, backed by limestone cliffs and was once fertile smuggling territory, plus contraband was hidden in nearby caves, which are now a popular tourist attraction

When we arrived the boiler had broken ( we knew this was the case before travelling) and heaters were provided which were great and we were toasty warm in the property. We used the shower in next door property on the first day and this was fine and we were grateful that this was an option. Boiler got fixed on our first full day so then everything was great. The property owner was very informative and kept us up to date with this process all the way through so all in all we felt well looked after. Would recommend this property - and the games barn was a great social space as we were with family in another cottage. The property has all facilities that you would need for a cozy new year break. Would like to visit in summer months also.

The stay was as comfortable as ever as we have been staying af Northleigh Farm since 2091. Sue and Simon are so welcoming. Our 9 year old Grandson loved the games room and our granddaughter helped with collecting the eggs. We will be back.

Facilities were absolutely amazing and we had such a good time there. We would ve quick to recommend this place to anyone who will listen. The owners were lovely and offered to fix any problems we had. The farm products were amazing too, but my favourite part was the apple juice!!
