The kitchen is well-equipped with an electric induction hob, standard microwave, convection oven microwave, fridge/ freezer and a small table and chairs seating two guests. The living area is perfect for relaxing in after a busy day exploring the local area, so kick back and watch a film on the TV with freeview and a DVD player or listen to the stereo. The garden is partially enclosed however small pets may be able to escape through small gaps.
Guests will most likely spot the nearby wildlife which regularly includes deer, hares and more! With very little traffic passing by and no street lighting, the area is an ideal retreat for stargazing. Supermarkets, restaurants, a fish and chip shop, pub and local shops are just three miles away in the local village of Cockwood. Situated in one of South Devon’s most beautiful areas, you will be able to stroll and explore the nearby woodland, which is just across the field, or enjoy some delightful country lane walks direct from the property. An ideal position for touring South Devon, there is a lovely beach at Dawlish Warren less than 5 miles away, as well as the nearby beaches of Teignmouth, Exmouth and Torbay. The wild bird sanctuary and reserve at Dawlish Warren is nearby, as is rugged Dartmoor, a haven for wildlife, wild ponies and more strenuous walks. The cathedral city of Exeter is a short easy drive and offers a range of popular shops and boutiques, restaurants, theatre, cinemas and other leisure facilities. Close by, there are other attractions to suit all tastes as well as numerous National Trust properties and gardens. The 3,500 acre Haldon Hills Forest Park is just 5 minutes drive away and is criss-crossed with walking and cycling trails for all abilities, perfectly completed by brunch or a luscious slice of cake in the café.

Its a lovely cottage and place to stay. The bad points, it's provides hand towels not bath towels. It's very dusty and the shower head could do with some a good scrub other than that it's in a nice location and lovely views.

We stayed in this cottage in 2024 and opted to book again as it is an ideal base for exploring the area. On arrival we discovered hygiene was a little lax with stained hand towels and the rooms smelled musty. Be warned, there are spiders everywhere. However, we were able to settle in well enough. We were pleased to see the outdated oven had been replaced with a microwave; we still had to get creative when preparing breakfast as the toaster was faulty. We opted to purchase a replacement as a thankyou gift for Beatrice for accepting our booking. The off road parking is such a bonus as its useful when unloading the car. I suggest reverse parking each time because it's a narrow road with a blind corner. The cottage is only a short drive to Starcross, where there is excellent rail links to places such as Dawlish, Exeter and Paignton. Local parking is currently only £2.70 per day. We made good use of the binoculars to take in the stunning views, sunset and visiting wildlife. It is a very quiet area with only the occasional passing traffic. Please note there is no WiFi connection so you'll be using data on your mobile. We had a little difficulty with the hot water but this was easily remedied by boiling the kettle, perhaps a washing up bowl could be provided? The shower works well and you don't need much soap because the water is soft. The bathroom is very small so don't forget your bathrobe. It might be prudent to remove the DVD player as it no longer functions. The septic tank did cause a little challenge as owing to the warm weather as it became quite malodorous. We loved nothing better after a long day's sightseeing than to sit and enjoy a BBQ in the garden listening to the trees rustle in the gentle summer breeze.

We wanted a quiet weekend away and the old telephone exchange was ideal. Great location with stunning views and lots of walks near by. Lovely fresh bedding but as previous guests have mentioned, the thing that lets it down is the cleanliness in places and not having much room to put things as cupboards and drawers are full.
