About this property

Totnes 3.4 miles. Tucked away in the quiet hamlet of Tuckenhay, a stone's throw from the thriving market town of Totnes, rests this delightful ground-floor holiday home, Mallard Cottage. Nestled on the banks of Bow Creek, Mallard Cottage is an idyllic base for both family and friends alike looking to experience a tranquil retreat to Devon. Stepping into the property, you’re invited into an open-plan living space, beautifully-presented with a light and airy décor, providing a welcoming and homely ambiance, enticing you to put your feet up as you nestle in on the sofa, letting the television do the entertaining. Continue through to the contemporary kitchen, amply-equipped with all the amenities necessary to prepare a heart-warming meal for the group, serving up around the dining table to indulge in your culinary delights as you enjoy some overdue quality time together. In the evening, head outside and take a seat on the terrace, soaking in the tranquil setting as you watch the sunset over the horizon across the calming water. When it’s time for bed, you’re spoilt for choice between the master room, housing a sumptuous king-size bed, a twin and a single, all featuring a neutral décor and providing storage space to house your belongings. In the morning, prepare for a new day with a leisurely soak in the family bathroom, or if you’d prefer, make use of the overhead shower for a quick morning rinse, and enjoy a moment of peace with a seat in the reading nook, soaking in the panoramic views across the river with a steaming cup of coffee. A private quay is also available for you to enjoy with steps leading down to the creek, an ideal place to launch your kayak or paddleboard from. Take a break from doing the cooking and head next door to The Maltsters Arms, a traditional village pub set in an 18th-century coaching inn, and indulge in a delicious meal prepared by an award-winning chef, or enjoy a refreshing drink with a view from the riverside. Pack up your beach going essentials and head to the nearby seaside resort of Paignton, home to a magnificent stretch of golden sand alongside a traditional pier, boasting a family-friendly entertainment complex, or if you’d prefer to stay on land, visit the animals at Paignton Zoo Environmental Park. Venture further afield to the town of Torquay, nicknamed the English Riviera, where you can explore the prehistoric caves at Kents Cavern, test your swing at Torquay Golf Course, or discover the quirky miniature village displays stretching across four acres of glorious gardens at Babbacombe Model Village. Make memories that will last a lifetime with an unforgettable stay at Mallard Cottage.

Tucked away within South Devon's designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, at the head of the estuary of the River Dart, rests the town of Totnes. The town boasts an array of cafes and eateries catering to all tastes, along with an exciting selection of shops and attractions worth visiting, including the 16th century merchants house homing Totnes Museum and the tranquil gardens of Vire Island. No logs were supplied for the wood burner, (the guest information said there would be) only two dish washer tablets provided, one very cheap small washing up sponge provided, which was used to clean the dirty barbecue, only one black refuse bag provided, no sharp knife, (only one small kitchen knife and three bread knives) I believe these items should be provided and I had to go out and buy them.

Everything was there to make a most delightful stay and we really enjoyed our stay.

It was a comfortable cottage with lots of natural light and there was everything you need for a stay. The location was stunning with views of the river from the windows and patio. There are lots of pubs including one next door ( very quiet and noise) to walk to depending on how far you want to venture. All serve great food and are welcoming. Dittisham is also a great place to walk or drive to and the lanes are fairly quiet, Totnes and Brixham are also recommended as places to see.
