About this property

This cosy, thatched cottage is located just paces from the vibrant town square in Chagford. Here you'll find an array of independent boutiques and galleries welcoming pubs and quirky cafés. Together with its characterful interior, Fox Hat Cottage provides a charming base for enjoying the amenities and local walks right from the doorstep. After a day rambling on the moor, settle down in front of the woodburning stove and catch up on your favourite shows from the Smart TV. Allow the chef of the group to get acquainted in the kitchen, assisted by an electric oven and gas hob among the appliances, while the rest of the group can prepare the dining table with crockery and cutlery. Move upstairs to discover two bedrooms, both with superkingsize or zip/link beds which can be arranged as twins for ultimate flexibility. When you’re ready to explore, you won’t have to walk far to reach a surprisingly large range of traditional pubs serving delicious food, along with many more restaurants to sample after a long walk on the riverbank. Prepare a picnic and head for a relaxing stroll around Fernworthy Reservoir, or for a unique day out with the kids, the Dartmoor Llama Walks is a great experience with these adorable and gentle creatures. Explore the Dartmoor National Park further and expect to find wild, open moorlands and deep river valleys, making it a haven for any outdoor enthusiast! Explore Castle Drogo, a National Trust gem, with its magnificent gardens sitting high above the Teign Valley, while further afield lies the Cathedral city of Exeter, filled with rich history, culture and art. For a getaway you won’t forget, a visit to Fox Hat Cottage is a must.

Chagford, one of Dartmoor's five Stannary towns, is a little town with a lots to see and do. There are a variety of shops as well as four bars in the area. More active facilities, such as a public tennis court and an open-air swimming pool, are available in Chagford. The Three Crowns Hotel, which dates back to the 1200s, is located in this historic town. Chagford is noted for its culture, hosting film, literary, and music festivals as well as the Two Hills Race, an annual running race. Exeter, a vibrant, lovely city just over 21 miles away, offers a different kind of getaway and is well worth a visit. Okehampton, a quaint and attractive town, is about 12 miles distant.

It is extremely well placed in the village and the owners have thought carefully about every detail to make our stay pleasurable. I am sure the owner is aware that the shower above the sitting room occasionally leaks and drips down onto the single sofa seat. There is some small water damage on the panelling above the chair which I noticed on a previous visit too. We are looking forward to our next visit later in the month!

Foxhat is perfect for us as we absolutely love Chagford! Such a friendly village. We've stayed in a few properties through Helpful Holidays/Sykes. Thoroughly recommend this accommodation. It's so clean and comfortable. Plenty of hot water and a good night's rest in the lovely large bed! Check out The Globe for amazing food and a warm welcome from Mary, Graham and Nick and The Three Crowns too. Breakfast at Folklore is amazing! Such beautiful walks directly from the cottage door, over to Fingle Bridge and Castle Drogo. Plenty of parking in the main carpark and so cheap. Can't fault anything! We always return every year, so will be back again next spring.

The cottage was so warm and cosy we didn’t need the wood burner. Everything was provided for a very comfortable stay for adults and dog. We were particularly impressed by the beds and showers. Hope to make a return trip soon.
