Orchard Barn is a luxurious and spacious three-bedroom barn conversion just outside the small village of South Tawton. Set on a working farm close to Dartmoor National Park, it has been lovingly renovated by the owners in 2021 and lies in a rural setting.
Standing detached, it greets guests with a delicious welcome pack of thoughtfully provided fresh local produce. The owners can supply award winning meat (105 awards) for your stay and their neighbour can supply you with quiches, scones, so you can have a night free from cooking.
The open plan living space includes a well-equipped kitchen and a lovely dining and living area with a wood burner for the cooler months and air conditioning for the summer. The kitchen has a beautiful island worktop with a couple of stools, the perfect spot to plan your day over a morning coffee, and later you can gather round the striking oak dining table for a celebratory meal. The spacious living area combines traditional features of the barn with contemporary touches, and heading upstairs you will find three comfortable bedrooms, each with a super kingsize bed (two of the zip and link bedrooms can be split to accommodate four children in one bedroom if required), two with an en-suite shower room, and the other bedroom has use of the family bathroom featuring a luxurious roll-top bath.
Sit outside and enjoy peace in the garden beside the apple orchard, with its outdoor seating, picnic benches and barbecue with complimentary pack of charcoal. There is also an outside dog shower with hot and cold water. The external games room is a great additional space, featuring a table tennis, pool table, space to store bicycles and surfboards, a washing machine and a tumble dryer.
Set on the north eastern edge of the stunning Dartmoor National Park with walks and cycle paths from your doorstep, you can easily explore the beautiful surrounding countryside and discover the local wildlife, including the iconic Dartmoor ponies. Okehampton is a short distance way and has a good selection of shops, amenities and castle, or walk along the Tarka Trail and the old railway to Meldon reservoir. National Trust Castle Drogo is also nearby for a visit, and Devon’s bustling resorts and beautiful beaches are just a short drive away, including Teignmouth, Dawlish and Exmouth (reached in 40 minutes).
With beautiful surroundings, Orchard Barn is the perfect choice for a truly memorable holiday. Central to both North and South Coastlines and easy access to the A30, it is easy to get to ‘everywhere’! Castles, Gorges, stately homes, riverside walks, moorland walks, horse riding, mountain biking, Tarka Trail, Granite Way, Wray Valley (three off road level routes for cycling), Chagford and Okehampton swimming pool.

We (4 adults and 2 dogs) thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay at The Orchard, which is a converted barn. It has been converted to a very high standard. The accommodation was as described and is excellent. Clean, well equipped including bath robes and towels for the hot tub. The host, Jane, is next door and could not have been more helpful when we had issues or queries. Any issues were sorted out as soon as reasonably practical. The setting is lovely with views from all the bedrooms and the living quarters across the valley. It's a working farm and we enjoyed meeting the Shetland pony, donkey, chickens and goats and their new kids. The farm is separate from The Orchard so no worries about us or them getting in the way. The dogs have a secure area in which to play. It was great. It is quite a remote spot so there is no immediate shop etc on hand, but there are services that cater for the A30 which are only a 5 min drive away. The garage shop (Morrisson's) is well stocked for basics eg milk, bread, drink etc. as well as petrol. Easy access for the A30. It's approx one hour to reach each coast, and of course Dartmoor is immediately on hand and Exeter is nearby.We have no hesitation in recommending The Orchard to anyone else and we would return if the opportunity arises. We recently stayed at Orchard Barn during an incredibly difficult week as we were attending my mum’s funeral, and I honestly can’t thank the owners enough for providing such a peaceful and comforting place to stay.The accommodation was beautiful — spacious, spotless and so thoughtfully presented. The views were stunning and the hot tub became a little escape for us at the end of some very emotional days.It gave our family somewhere calm and relaxing to come back to, reflect, and spend precious time together. We’ll always remember our stay and truly appreciate the care that has clearly gone into creating such a special place.Thank you again for your kindness and hospitality 🤍

We had a lovely time at Orchard Barn. Jane was a great host, very friendly and welcoming, giving us tips on local places to visit (The Warren House Inn, overlooking the Moors was a great recommendation). We used Orchard Barn as a base during the week, while doing various day trips, and then cooking in the evening and playing board games. The kitchen is great, very spacious to cook. I wasn’t expecting to really use it myself, but coming back after a long day walking to the Hot Tub became part of the routine and was enjoyed by all. I would say the pool table is OK for children to play on as some fun, but it’s quite tired and so wouldn’t expect any pool enthusiasts to use it. However the table tennis was a good standard with new paddles and we spent a few hours playing during the week. Overall, very much recommend, would love to return in the future.
