Guests say

Fernlea is a spacious and well-equipped cottage, ideal for large groups or families, with all bedrooms en suite and a large garden perfect for gatherings. Guests praise its beautiful countryside location, comfortable beds, and excellent kitchen facilities. The property is clean and offers easy access to local walks and attractions. Some guests note that the showers could be improved and the decor is a little dated, but these do not detract from an otherwise enjoyable stay. The owner is generally responsive and helpful, making Fernlea a popular choice for group holidays.

Multiple reviews mention the property as clean, with comfortable beds and fresh linen. There are no significant complaints about cleanliness, and guests consistently describe the house as tidy and well-maintained.

The location is highly praised, with guests enjoying the beautiful countryside, proximity to Swanage, Corfe Castle, and walking routes. The peaceful setting and access to local amenities are frequently highlighted.

Guests find the cottage spacious and comfortable, especially appreciating the en suite bedrooms and large communal areas. Some mention dated decor and minor issues with showers, but overall comfort is rated highly.

The house is well-equipped, with a large kitchen, plenty of crockery, and a spacious garden. The main negative is the inconsistent water pressure in some showers and the basement dining room being less practical. Suggestions include a second dishwasher and improved showers.

There are no mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches such as complimentary items in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

Great location, beutiful garden, easy to get in. House was all as expected and had a great stay. The host communication wasn't great, we were accused of damaging a gutter which we hadn't, was just strange communication when it could have been sorted quite easily by asking politely and discussing with us. Also an issue with a bad smell in the kitchen, we did let them know late as we didn’t want to bother them.

Our group of 9 had a lovely time at Fernlea, with so much of interest in the area. It was a lovely spot, with ample opportunity to walk in the countryside. The house was very well equipped, especially in the kitchen, and we had no difficulty cooking meals for the whole party. However, there were a few issues with the house:Having the dining room downstairs in the cellar really made it unusable - we would have been too nervous carrying hot food down those stairs. Also, the dining room itself was very gloomy and musty-smelling, and really not suitable as a dining room. We ate upstairs, squeezed onto the table. The room downstairs would really be more suitable as a games room, with the long dining room table upstairs, as there is space for it.While it is an excellent feature having all rooms en-suite, the bathrooms lacked any surfaces to put things on - a few little shelves would make all the difference. Also, more seriously, the showers need grab rails and non-slip mats for those of us less steady on our feet. One of our number was unable to safely use the shower. The rugs throughout the house, while very decorative, were a bit of a trip hazard, and one of them had to be rolled up out of the way.Any couples might want to consider a twin room rather than the double rooms, which were a bit cramped for 2 people. On a nit-picking level, the inner front door was difficult to close fully, which meant it tended to fly open in the wind.Of course nothing could have been done about the weather, which was very windy and a bit rainy so we weren't able to make much use of the very pleasant and spacious garden.

We had a fantastic stay at Fernlea. Beautiful part of the country and we were able to enjoy many walks right from our doorstep. The property itself worked really well for a group of 11 adults and kids, and we made good use of the long garden, including eating outside. Flexible check-in and responsive property owner. Many thanks!
