Part of a beautiful, 17-acre sanctuary farm, this idyllic shepherd’s hut makes a fabulous romantic retreat for couples seeking a tranquil holiday hideaway along the border of Herefordshire and Monmouthshire. Offering cosy accommodation for two guests, the carriage has a welcoming wood burner, a private hot tub, and magical views towards the Black Mountains along the eastern ridge of the Brecon Beacons. With an open camp fire, beautiful wooden furnishings and resident horses, donkeys and chickens, this quirky wagon is an ideal base for wild swimming and stargazing – donkey experiences are also available by arrangement with the owner.
A few steps lead up into this unique, arched-roof wagon which features a glowing wood burner, comfortable seating, a radio, a folding dining table, plenty of storage space, a small gas oven, a hob and sink. When it’s time to retire for the night there’s a lovely double bed to the rear of the hut. Outside, there’s seating on the porch, while the garden area features a camp fire, outdoor furniture and a soothing hot tub as well as a gas-powered hot shower and eco-compost toilet. You will also be welcome to explore the surrounding farmland, walk down to the waterhole for wild swimming, chat with the resident horse listener or meet the owners for private donkey picnics in the woods.
The property lies in a stunning area with miles of breathtaking walks. To the south, the bustling village of Longtown is home to a friendly inn, some useful shops, and the ruins of a medieval castle. To the north you can visit Hay-on-Wye (8 miles), famed for its international literature festival and fabulous array of second-hand bookshops. Heading west, keen walkers, climbers and cyclists can explore the glorious Brecon Beacons National Park (5 miles) with its magnificent mountains, beautiful valleys, and spectacular countryside.
