Lady of Lourdes is a truly unique holiday home nestled in the peaceful village of Whitchurch, Herefordshire, offering guests the rare chance to stay in a beautifully converted former Catholic chapel. Originally built as a place of worship and transformed into a spacious home in 2005, this remarkable property blends historic charm with modern convenience, making it ideal for families, friends, or groups seeking a memorable stay near the Wye Valley. Step through the chapel doors into a striking entrance hall, where the high vaulted ceiling and arched windows immediately hint at the building’s character and history. The large lounge provides a welcoming space to gather, with inviting sofas and a TV perfect for evenings in.
The open-plan kitchen/diner is thoughtfully equipped with two ovens, a hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, kettle, and toaster, alongside a generous dining table and a pool table for entertainment. A utility room houses a washing machine and tumble dryer, while an office space and cloakroom add to the convenience of the ground floor. Upstairs, there are three beautifully presented bedrooms. The master bedroom and first-floor double both feature en-suite shower rooms, while a second double bedroom is served by a stylish family bathroom with a bath, shower over, basin, and WC. On the second floor, you’ll find a spacious open area furnished with a sofa and some gym weights, perfect for guests who like to keep active during their stay.
From here, a twin bedroom leads through to an additional double bedroom, forming an ideal layout for families or friends sharing the space. Outside, the property enjoys a lawned garden surrounding the building with a patio area, where a table and chairs will be provided for spring, creating a lovely spot for morning coffee or alfresco dining. There’s also ample off-road parking, secure storage for bikes, and the property welcomes well-behaved pets, ensuring everyone can enjoy a getaway together. The local area offers plenty to explore. In Whitchurch, stroll through charming village lanes and stop by traditional pubs serving excellent food and local ales.
Head to Symonds Yat for breathtaking views from Yat Rock, enjoy a scenic river cruise, or spot peregrine falcons along the cliffs. History lovers will enjoy Goodrich Castle, one of the country’s best-preserved medieval fortresses, and King Arthur’s Cave, steeped in legend. Families can visit the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo or venture into the Forest of Dean, where miles of trails await walkers and cyclists alike. Blending centuries-old character with all the conveniences of modern living, Lady of Lourdes offers an unforgettable retreat.
