Jacob's Barn is a well-received cottage, praised for its cleanliness, high-quality finish, and welcoming host. It's an ideal retreat for couples and solo travellers with pets, offering a cosy atmosphere and a convenient base for exploring the Peak District and nearby attractions like Alton Towers. While compact, the cottage's thoughtful layout and amenities contribute to a comfortable stay, though some guests suggest minor improvements in maintenance and provision of cleaning materials.
The cottage is generally described as clean and spotless, with only a few isolated comments about a sofa needing a deep clean and some decoration refreshment. The positive remarks on cleanliness far outweigh the negatives.
The location is highly regarded for its beauty and proximity to the Peak District, Alton Towers, and local villages. It's considered ideal for exploring the area, despite being remote with no shops or pubs within immediate walking distance.
Comfort is well-rated, with the cottage being cozy and the furniture comfortable. However, some guests noted the compact size and open-plan layout could be an issue for noise and privacy, and the sloping ceiling might be tight for taller individuals.
Facilities are generally good, with the cottage being well-equipped. Some guests mentioned the need for better cleaning materials and condiments, and a few maintenance issues like a worn dishwashing brush and decoration needing refreshment.
While guests appreciate the cottage and its amenities, there is no consistent mention of welcome gifts or additional thoughtful touches. As such, it's not possible to score this category accurately, and guests should note that such extras are not guaranteed.

Great little cottage, big enough for the two of us and our cockapoo, idea position to explore the surrounding area,Just a couple of things that let it down - the sofa needs a deep clean and pillows ready needed replacing, also no hand soap which we were surprised at. The dishwashing brush provided had seen better days so pack your own.

Perfect base for touring Peak District with lots of pretty villages nearby. Compact, (as truthfully shown in photos) but just right for a solo traveller with dog, and essentially this makes it affordable if you're on a budget. Sloping ceiling in bedroom might be too tight if you're over 6ft tall. Notes: do take handsoap, there isn't any provided in kitchen or toilet.
