About this property

Flag Cottage is a 4-Star Gold Award-winning holiday home in West Burton, sleeping four across two bedrooms (1 King & 1 Twin/Double) in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. This beautifully appointed self-catering accommodation welcomes dogs and features a well-equipped kitchen, separate lounge and dining areas, plus a garden terrace with stunning views to Bolton Castle. West Burton's picture-perfect setting opens onto endless fell walks from your front door, starting with a short stroll to the friendly Fox and Hounds pub on the village green. This holiday cottage combines sumptuous interiors with great access to Wensleydale, Aysgarth Falls, and the northern Dales' most spectacular landscapes.

Flag Cottage is in West Burton, a village that regularly appears on those "most beautiful in England" lists, and once you've seen the green with its ancient cross and stone cottages clustered around, you'll understand why. This 4-Star Gold Award holiday cottage sleeps four in genuine comfort - the kind of place where guests leave five-star reviews raving about super-comfy beds and gorgeous interiors. Everything you need for a week away is here, from the fully equipped kitchen to the cosy lounge, and that garden terrace where you can sit with a glass of wine watching the sun set behind Bolton Castle. The Fox and Hounds sits right on the village green for evenings when you fancy excellent food and local ales.

West Burton itself is a working village that's managed to keep its soul despite being achingly pretty. The well-stocked grocer and butcher mean you can stock up without driving anywhere, while the tea room serves proper homemade cakes. Footpaths head off in all directions straight from the cottage door - you can walk for hours without retracing your steps. The village holds traditional events throughout the year, including a May Fair and Bonfire Night, both on the green, giving you an authentic taste of Dales community life. This tranquil spot puts you right in the heart of Wensleydale without being on the well-trodden tourist trail.

The northern Yorkshire Dales spread out beautifully from here. Aysgarth Falls, with its three spectacular drops, is close by - those cascades look stunning whatever the season. Hawes and its famous creamery, where they make Wensleydale cheese, is up the dale, while Middleham Castle and its racing stables are down towards Leyburn. Go shopping in the market town of Leyburn, whose shops and cafes are joined every Friday by a market that's been running for centuries. Bolton Castle, clearly visible from the cottage garden, offers medieval history and falconry displays. Swaledale and its stone barns dotted across hillsides is within easy reach, as is Coverdale for quieter walking. The three peaks—Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough—are all accessible to serious hikers. This holiday home in the Yorkshire Dales gives you everything from gentle riverside strolls to challenging fell walks, all starting from one of England's most charming villages.

The owners received a rose Award in 2023 for going above and beyond to their customers.
