Stonecroft is a cosy, well-equipped cottage in the heart of Middleham, ideal for exploring the local countryside and nearby towns. Guests appreciated the charming original features, comfortable beds, and central location close to pubs and amenities. While some found the cottage spotless and inviting, others noted areas for improvement in cleanliness and maintenance. Parking can be challenging due to the central setting, and a few guests mentioned a lack of welcome provisions. Overall, Stonecroft offers a comfortable base with plenty of character in a lovely village setting.
Opinions on cleanliness were mixed; some guests found the cottage clean and well-presented, while others reported issues such as the need to clean the bath on arrival and a desire for more thorough cleaning between guests.
The location was highly praised for its central position in the village, proximity to pubs, and ease of exploring the surrounding area. Some noise from nearby pubs was noted, but overall the setting was considered a major advantage.
Guests found the cottage cosy with comfortable beds and a welcoming atmosphere, enhanced by features like a real fire. Some minor issues with noise and furniture were mentioned, but overall comfort was rated positively.
The cottage was described as well-equipped, with a modern kitchen and bathroom, dishwasher, and washing machine. However, some guests noted missing items (such as wine glasses), maintenance issues (dryer and lamp not working), and tight parking.
Several guests mentioned the absence of welcome provisions such as milk or wine, which are sometimes provided in other cottages. While gifts are not guaranteed, the lack of these touches was noted by guests.

Stonecroft is a traditional-style, 18th-century stone Yorkshire Dales cottage, quietly situated in a cobbled lane, just off the Market Square in the historic Wensleydale town of Middleham. The imposing castle is a short distance away and all the town’s amenities are within a minute’s walk where you will find a regular bus service. Although recently totally renovated to a high standard, Stonecroft still retains much character and many original features, including exposed beams in all rooms and exposed stonework to parts of the kitchen. Only cottage we have ever stayed in that didn’t even have a pint of milk in the fridge waiting for you. Photos of property need updating to reflect the property which could do with a more thorough cleaning between guests, we had to clean the bath before it could be used as still had pubic hairs in it from the last occupancy. Welcome instructions need updating as there were no instructions waiting in the cottage on how to get there by car after walking up the ginnel. No wine glasses available and limited others. Commode as a chair in one bedroom, no chair in the other. Central location next to pubs, but does mean that we were woken every night by customers leaving the pub and the bottles being put out. Washing machine/dryer unfortunately did not dry clothes, bedside lamp did not work but does have a dishwasher. No outside bin seemed to be available for general rubbish or instructions on where to place it. Parking is a challenge but that’s to be expected with the location. Middleham is however a lovely place to stay.
