Take relaxing strolls along the shoreline, being sure to look out for seals and dolphins off the coast. The town is also famous for Whitby jet – a black gemstone made from fossilised wood – so keep a look out for this special keepsake on your travels. Set high above the town is Whitby Abbey, said to be the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The atmospheric ruins are a paradise for photographers, particularly at sunset.
