Guests say

Waterloo Cottage Annexe in Whitby is highly praised for its idyllic riverside setting, abundant wildlife, and cosy atmosphere. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable furnishings, and the property's cleanliness. The garden and conservatory offer relaxing views, enhancing the stay. While some guests mention minor issues with facilities and Wi-Fi, the overall experience is one of tranquillity and enjoyment, with many planning return visits.

Guests consistently note the cottage's cleanliness, describing it as spotless and well-maintained. The attention to cleanliness contributes significantly to the positive experiences reported.

The location is frequently highlighted for its beauty and proximity to wildlife, with easy access to Whitby and local amenities. However, a few guests noted the busy road and the surprise of the tidal river, slightly affecting the score.

The cottage is repeatedly described as comfortable and cosy, with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable bed. Some guests, however, mentioned that the sleeping arrangements could be tight for four people, which slightly impacts the comfort score.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and good heating. However, there are recurring comments about Wi-Fi issues, a broken toilet seat, and TV volume problems, indicating room for improvement in maintenance.

While some guests mention a welcome pack and gifts, there are inconsistent reports about their presence. As such, it is not possible to accurately score thoughtfulness based on the available information, and guests should not expect guaranteed gifts.

About this property

An attractive, single-storey property, adjoining the owners' holiday home, situated on the banks of the River Esk in Ruswarp village. Traditionally furnished and decorated, this Ruswarp cottage provides desirable accommodation for couples wishing to stay in a tranquil riverside setting, but within easy reach of the lively seaside town of Whitby. The spacious sitting room takes in lovely views over the river and offers a cosy woodburner for cooler evenings, whilst the small kitchen opens onto a porch/conservatory with additional seating overlooking the garden. Outside this Ruswarp cottage, a lawned garden runs alongside the river banks, a delightful place to sit, relax and watch the abundance of wildlife - including seals that are regularly seen swimming upstream.

Ruswarp village has excellent facilities, including a renowned butcher's, a local inn serving real ales and food and a village shop. Steam trains regularly pass by in the summer months and a public footpath offers a pleasant walk into Whitby, with its famous abbey, good beaches and historic harbour. Why not climb the 199 steps up to St. Mary's church and take an invigorating cliff top walk, or explore the quaint, narrow streets and cobbled market place? With the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors close by and the dramatic coastline to discover, this Ruswarp cottage provides an ideal base.

Just two miles inland from the seaside resort of Whitby and the Yorkshire Coast is the quiet little North York Moors village of Ruswarp. As well as a nine-hole golf course, this quaint little place also enjoys the use of a village pub and shop as well as both sea and river fishing facilities. The river which runs through town provides excellent opportunities for a boat ride, or just a few minutes away is the local miniature steam railway. There’s a lovely friendly pub with good food about 5 minutes walk away on the other side of the river with the railway station and bus stop nearby. We’ve just booked for next year.
