Thistle-Doo Nicely is a quirky, characterful cottage in the picturesque village of Staithes, offering a unique and rustic experience. Guests appreciated the comfortable beds, helpful caretaker, and the charm of the log burner. The location is peaceful and ideal for exploring the village. However, several reviews noted that the property would benefit from a thorough clean, some maintenance, and clearer instructions regarding heating and hot water. While the cottage provides a memorable stay for those seeking character and value, it may not suit guests with mobility issues or those seeking modern comforts.
Multiple guests mentioned dust, cobwebs, and a general need for a deep clean, especially in corners and under beds. However, the kitchen, bathroom, and beds were generally found to be clean.
The cottage is praised for its excellent location in the beautiful and peaceful village of Staithes, making it ideal for exploring the area.
Guests found the beds comfortable and the cottage spacious, but steep stairs and issues with heating and hot water affected overall comfort, particularly for those with mobility concerns.
Facilities were described as basic, with several reports of non-functioning appliances, lack of hot water unless the fire was lit, and maintenance issues such as peeling paint and loose handrails.
Guests noted a lack of basic supplies such as firelighters, kindling, and welcome packs. While towels and some essentials were provided, gifts or extra touches are not guaranteed.

Firstly, Staithes is a beautiful village and well worth a visit. The cottage itself is quaint, with many quirky features which we didn't mind. However, it is most definitely lacking in areas. There is no hot water available unless you light a fire, not very practical when you don't need a fire lighting, this would be unbearable in summer period and contrary to what it says in information provided. The immersion heater does not work. So we had no hot water in the bathroom, thankfully the shower is electric, and resorted to boiling kettles in the kitchen. We did contact the caretaker who confirmed the immersion heater doesn't work and a fire would need to be lit. The cottage is generally clean but a bit unkempt, nothing a really good proper clean wouldn't solve. It does need a great deal of work in the kitchen though, fridge is old, rusty and my opinion needs replacing. In fact the whole kitchen could with a decent amount of money spending on it. It smells of damp, cabinets are poor, lighting is abysmal, you can see daylight through the edge of the window frame and the door sticks badly needing a lot of force to close properly. By far the kitchen is the worst room in the cottage and needs addressing. Our 3 night stay was at best alright, we only slept and had breakfast there. There are similar cottages in a lot better condition in Staithes, just look through the windows. Quaint and quirky. Would we stay there again??? DEFINITELY NOT!!!

This cottage was dreadful.Prices for September were reasonable but id suggest paying slightly more to stay in a well presented cottage. Paint was peeling off damp walls and ceilings Cleanliness was shocking.Although towels were available there was no tea towels in kitchen. On the plus side the log burner was fantastic.bed was comfortable and laundry was clean.
