Guests say

Tinkerbell Cottage offers a peaceful and charming retreat in a beautiful, remote location ideal for those seeking to unwind and reconnect with nature. Guests consistently praise the tranquil setting, abundant wildlife, and opportunities for walking and stargazing. The cottage is cosy and well-equipped for a simple, back-to-basics stay, though some mention areas for improvement in cleanliness and maintenance. The absence of TV, Wi-Fi, and phone signal is seen as a positive by most, enhancing the sense of escape. Overall, it is highly recommended for those looking for relaxation and a break from modern distractions.

Most guests found the cottage reasonably clean, but several reviews mention areas needing more attention, such as dirty appliances, musty smells, and unclean soft furnishings. Some guests felt compelled to clean upon arrival. While not universally problematic, cleanliness could be improved for a more consistently pleasant experience.

The location is widely celebrated for its beauty, tranquillity, and access to nature. Guests love the remote setting, scenic drives, and proximity to excellent walks and wildlife. The peacefulness and sense of escape are major highlights.

The cottage is described as cosy, warm, and inviting, with a comfortable bedroom and effective heating. Some guests found the bed too low or uncomfortable, but most enjoyed restful nights and appreciated features like the skylight for stargazing. The living space is generally considered spacious and relaxing.

Facilities are basic but sufficient for a simple stay, with a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of DVDs. Some guests noted missing or worn kitchen items, and occasional maintenance issues such as wasps or lack of coal. The absence of modern amenities is intentional and appreciated by most, though a few suggest improvements like a landline for emergencies.

There are no mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

About this property

This half-round property is set amidst trees in the grounds of the Bainaboth Estate, offering a peaceful retreat.. "Acres of peaceful and secluded countryside surround these magnificent cottages..."

At the heart of Glenprosen, one of the renowned ‘Glens of Angus’, lies the Balnaboth Estate on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park; 6,000 peaceful and secluded acres surrounding 16th-century Balnaboth House. In its midst, these six characterful holiday cottages each offer a unique and magical holiday retreat; indeed the creator of Peter Pan himself (Sir James Barrie) was born in nearby Kirriemuir and holidayed here.

These cottages were once occupied by shepherds, gardeners or other staff of the Ogilvy family when this was a traditional Victorian sporting estate. Red squirrels play in the trees, otters frequent the burns, and deer graze all around. Because of the varied scenery, that varies from beech woods to forest, pasture to heather moor, mountain streams to river pools, the area enjoys a spectacular range of wildlife, including species largely extinct elsewhere in Britain, such as black game and ptarmigan.

Magnificent walking, bird-watching, mountain biking and (in season) cross-country skiing abound on the estate and, further afield, downhill skiing at Glen Shee (25 miles). Fishing is available on a 5-mile stretch of the River Prosen, and there are twenty golf courses within an hours’ drive.

Enjoy the seclusion of this beautiful glen - peaceful, relaxing, scenic - yet just a few minutes’ drive from bustling market towns and busy fishing harbours which hug the Angus coastline, as well as from the city of Dundee which offers many attractions for all the family. The exciting Dundee Contemporary Arts is a stunningly-designed centre which incorporates galleries, a print studio and two art-cinema screens, while the Mills Observatory is Britain’s only full-time public observatory with a resident astronomer.

Good road, rail and air access to Angus provide easy access from all parts of the UK or international destinations. Shop 9-10 miles.. 1 step to entrance.

My dog and I had a great week in Tinkerbell, it's a brilliant place if you like solitude, peace and quiet, fantastic walks. My only small criticism is at night there is no TV and no mobile phone signal (peace), there is however about 200 DVD's if you like watching films. Watching the stars at night is a wonder, because it's so dark there the sky just opens up, I wish I had taken my telescope. You really need to enjoy driving the scenery is stunning, trust your sat nav, what you think are tracks takes you to the best scenery off the beaten track, just watch out for the pheasants, partridges, grouse and rabbits, they think they own the road and walk in front of you, but that's all part of the fun. Glencoe is about 124 miles away, the drive is well worth it, and Fort William just about 16 miles further on, (didn't like FW). Pitlochry is beautiful as is the Pitlochry Dam.

I had a relaxing, peaceful holiday. There were no phone signal unless you go out the cottage.this is what I wanted no phones. The cottage could be a magical place. The cleanliness was substandard. The cottage smelt musty ,the appliances were dirty, I cleaned the work surfaces, appliances, washed the floor microwave should be condemned. The net curtains were dirty .I rolled them up and the light was better. The couch was dirty. It just needs a whole make over. It lacks any homely touches. It was lovely to get away but unfortunately Tinkerbell would be beautiful if the decorations and cleaning was off high standard. I left the cottage cleaner than I arrived. You have to pay for electric, hot water by reading the meter. it's says £10 is taken off..reading the visitors book these above imperfections have been over ten yes. It was nice seeing peacocks, rabbits, squirrels everyday.

We had an amazing time, very lovely, very clean and it had the cottage smell every time we walked through the door and I loved it. Reasonable price for the location and for the cottage and we loved reading the history of the cottage
