The busy rural market town of Castle Douglas is less than a ten minute drive away, offering a wide range of amenities. These include a range of interesting independent shops, art galleries, a community run theatre which doubles as a cinema, cafes, restaurants & pubs, a swimming pool, a 9-hole golf course, and a small independent brewery.

Loch Ken lies to the back of the village with excellent bird watching opportunities, the loch also has many water sports available including free fishing on parts.
