We very much enjoyed our stay at Shepherds Rest. The location couldn't have been better, deer, hares, red kites, pheasants and woodpeckers all as a daily treat, the hills in the background and Balcary bay 5 mins the other direction! Plenty of local walks, and Kirkcudbright, Gatehouse, Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie all within 20 mins easy drive. The cabin is compact, but has everything you need including very comfortable bed. There is a small copse with gated access (which our dog loved) as well as the sunny patio with furniture to enjoy the views. A credit to its owners and definitely recommended!

Absolutely loved our stay at The Shepherd’s Rest. It really is a little piece of Scottish heaven. The accommodation was cosy, peaceful, spotlessly comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing few days away.The setting is beautiful and incredibly peaceful, surrounded by countryside and wildlife. It was the perfect place to completely switch off, read, watch old films and enjoy some proper quiet time with my dog, Titi.I’ve taken Titi on a few little adventures and weekends away over the years, but I have to say The Shepherd’s Rest has been my favourite. She’s 15 now, so these little trips together feel particularly special, and I couldn’t have chosen a lovelier place for this one.The Shepherd’s Rest is also a great base for exploring Dumfries & Galloway, although I was equally happy just staying there and enjoying the surroundings. Everything was straightforward and well thought out, and we felt very comfortable throughout our stay.I genuinely didn’t want to leave. We came home with some very special memories and I would absolutely stay again. Highly recommended, especially if you’re looking for somewhere peaceful, cosy and dog-friendly.
